ChronoFEED SIM Help

The FINISH “Accept ChronoFEED-SIM” option

SIM sends fake passings to a real FINISH. So that a simulator forgotten on the network cannot falsify anything, FINISH decides, with a single box in its Broadcast module. Check it for your tests, uncheck it before any competition.

1. Accept SIM for a test

  1. Open the FINISH Broadcast module

    In FINISH, Broadcast module, Simulator (ChronoFEED-SIM) card.

  2. Check the option

    Accept ChronoFEED-SIM (unchecked by default). It is saved with the FINISH settings.

    Accept ChronoFEED-SIM
    For tests without hardware only: untick it during a competition. A connected SIM is shown in the status bar.

  3. Launch SIM

    It finds FINISH and links up. If it was already running and had been refused, it retries on its own every 10 seconds: nothing more to do.

    In SIM, the FINISH light turns green. In FINISH, the status bar shows SIM connected (PORTABLE-SIM) on an orange background, and the Broadcast client list shows SIM (in green).

  1. SIM connected, with the name of the SIM computer (several SIMs: all the computers). A click opens the Broadcast module, at the box to uncheck. See SIM connected in the FINISH help.

2. Option unchecked: SIM is refused

  • In FINISH: SIM receives neither races nor settings; its connection is closed immediately. The Broadcast tab (above the client list) and the session log report it, once per computer and per minute: “⚠ ChronoFEED-SIM (PORTABLE-SIM, 192.168.1.35) tried to connect: refused, the “Accept ChronoFEED-SIM” option is not ticked.”
  • In SIM: the FINISH light stays orange (“… does not accept ChronoFEED-SIM: the simulation is refused”), and the centre of the window says what to do: “FINISH … refuses the simulation. In FINISH, Broadcast module, tick “Accept ChronoFEED-SIM”: SIM then connects by itself, whatever the timing mode.” SIM opens no fake device: no network port listening, no serial port open, no announcement, no passing.

3. Uncheck at the end of the test

  1. Uncheck the option

    FINISH, Broadcast: Accept ChronoFEED-SIM unchecked (or click SIM connected to get there).

    A linked SIM is sent away immediately; it stops its fake device (network port or serial port closed) and writes it to the log: “FINISH refuses the simulation: the simulated equipment is stopped.” The orange banner disappears from FINISH.

  2. Go back to the real hardware

    In FINISH, Timing mode: put the address of the real decoder (or the real device's serial port) back.

  3. Close SIM

    Or, better still, do not launch it on a competition network.

The limit of the protection

Once accepted, the fake device behaves like the real one, because its protocol is followed in full: the fake RACE RESULT and the fake Ubidium announce themselves on the network like the real ones, the fake Chronelec answers the computer that sends it commands. As long as a FINISH that accepts SIM keeps a SIM active, another FINISH on the same network that targeted the SIM computer's address (or searched for an Ubidium with the automatic search) could therefore connect to it: its acquisition cannot tell the difference, and that is intended.

The protection is therefore operational:

  • “Accept ChronoFEED-SIM” option unchecked on every FINISH of the competition;
  • no SIM connected banner in the status bar;
  • no SIM running on the competition network;
  • in FINISH, the address (or serial port) of the real device.
