Sending transponders by hand

No race, no start: you choose transponders that FINISH knows and you make whoever you want cross the line, whenever you want — one passing, a bunch finish, or endless laps with errors. Ideal for free training, for checking a transponder database or for reproducing a specific case.

Example: FINISH (FINISH-Starford) is in Training activity, with the free sequence: each known transponder that crosses the line creates or joins the day's free race (see Free training in the FINISH help). SIM is already linked and connected (three green lights); the device is the venue's RACE RESULT.

1. Switch to Manual mode

In SIM, Mode Manual. The Manual passings card replaces the race list. If an orange line says “Nothing can be sent: …”, first fix what it says (see the card).

2. A first passing

  1. Choose the transponder

In Transponder, open the list: the transponders of the athletes in the FINISH races (with their name), then those of its database. Choose “9853806” (Saskia Brouwers' transponder), or type a number. Add (or Enter).

  2. Send

Send on its row, or Ctrl+1.

SIM log: “Passing sent: 9853806 at 14:18:40.120 (STA).” (with the athlete's name in brackets when they are in a FINISH race). In FINISH, the passing arrives on the finish line, like a passing from the real decoder: in free training, Saskia Brouwers joins the free race.

3. A bunch finish

  1. Add several transponders

Type several numbers separated by spaces or commas (“3118698 4972908 6660019”), then Add.

  2. Select them

    Click, Ctrl+click or Ctrl+A.

  3. Send the selection

Spacing 0 ms: all at the same instant; 150 ms: a tight pack. Then Send the selection (F5).

FINISH receives the passings together (or spaced out): watch how it ranks them.

4. Automatic laps, with errors

  1. Who laps

Check Laps on the rows you want. Give each one its pace in its Lap time column (Saskia Brouwers 33.5 s) or leave it empty for the common time.

  2. The common settings

Lap time 35 s, Variation ± 5 %, and the errors: Few errors.

  3. Start

    Start the laps (F8).

“Automatic laps started: 3 transponder(s), 35 s per lap (± 5 %), errors: few.” Each transponder crosses the line on its own, endlessly; the first passings are spread over the first lap. Intended errors are written to the log (“⚠ SIMULATED ERROR — …”).

  4. While running

Check or uncheck a row, change a lap time, add a transponder: it takes effect on the next lap. A passing by hand (Send) is still possible while the laps run.

  5. Stop

Stop the laps (F8). The laps also stop by themselves if FINISH no longer accepts SIM or if the device stops, and when going back to Race mode.

5. The start signal

Start signal sends the device's signal, like a gunshot. FINISH does with it what it would do for real: it starts the race that is waiting, or restarts a race already started, depending on its settings. Useful to try a start, then passings by hand on a loaded race.

What is remembered

The transponder list (with its boxes, times and selection), the common lap time, the variation, the errors and the spacing are saved on every change: at the next launch, the card is as you left it. The passing counters start again from zero.
