VOICE in the suite
VOICE receives the same broadcast as the TABLEAU displays: FINISH sends it the races, the laps, each athlete's language and options, and the bell; VOICE builds the sentences and speaks them with the Windows voices, on the computer's audio output. It does nothing else: it does not time anything and writes nothing to the database.
| Where | What is set there |
|---|---|
| FINISH | Which races are announced (Speech synthesis box in the race record); each athlete's language, options and target (Athletes tab); the bell. |
| EVENT | Each athlete's language, passed on to FINISH in the .cfevent file. |
| VOICE | The voices, the computer's default language, the start, the countdown, the queue, the bell sound, the races kept silent on this computer. |
Several VOICE computers can listen to the same FINISH: the public address system, a coach at the side of the track. Each has its own voices, language and races.
The example data
The examples in this help use a fictitious federation, clubs and athletes: SPEEDSKATING FAMOUS (SKF), HOLLYWOOD SPEEDSKATING (HSK), and the long track Coupe Hollywood at the Starford oval, the same as in the FINISH help. The FINISH computer is called “FINISH-Starford”, the VOICE computer “SONO”. The athletes' languages (French, English, Dutch, German) are in athletes.csv.
