Getting started

From the first launch to the first announcement, in ten minutes: VOICE finds FINISH, chooses its voices, and announces the laps of the races FINISH points it to.

Before you begin

  • A Windows computer with an audio output (the track's public address system, or speakers for a test), on the same network as the FINISH computer.
  • Synthesized voices for your athletes' languages: Windows has at least one for its own language; others can be added in Settings → Time & language → Speech.
  • FINISH with a session loaded (for a test without athletes: SIM runs fictitious athletes).

1. Launch VOICE

  1. The first launch

Without a licence, VOICE starts in trial mode; the licence status is shown under the connection status and in HelpLicence….

  2. FINISH is found automatically

At the top of the window:

    Searching for FINISH…
Clock not synchronizedTrial: 30 day(s) left, until 10 November 2026
    Announcements on

Then, within a few seconds: FINISH 192.168.1.10:8210, a green dot, and FINISH clock 13:30:05 (offset -1 ms, ± 1 ms). Several FINISH on the network: click yours. Nothing shows up: see Connecting VOICE to FINISH.

  3. The log

Live tab, bottom right: “5 voices installed: fr 2, en 2, nl 1, es none, de none”, then “FINISH found: FINISH-Starford (192.168.1.10:8210)”.

2. Listen to the voices

  1. Voice tab

One row per language. Used: the voice VOICE has chosen (Canada first, then the “OneCore” voices). A language says no voice installed for this language? Its announcements will not be spoken until a voice is installed.

  2. Test

Test on the English row: “Marie Tremblay, Second position, 3 laps to go, 31.4”. Adjust the volume of the public address system; if needed, the rate.

3. The first announcement

  1. In FINISH

Load a race whose record has Speech synthesis (race record, in the race list; it also shows in the header of the current race).

  2. In VOICE

Races received from FINISH shows the race, with Announce and Voice (FINISH) checked.

  3. The first lap

The first time an athlete crosses the line, VOICE says for example “Justine Pelletreau, First position, Last lap! 10.6”.

The sentence appears under In progress while it is spoken, then in the log, followed by its language, e.g. “(en)”.

  4. Speak yourself

In Say a message, type “Welcome to the Coupe Hollywood” and press Enter.
