VOICE on the “SONO” computer during the Coupe Hollywood: linked to FINISH-Starford, it is announcing the first lap of pair 3 of the 500 m Women.
  1. The menus: File, Langue / Language, Help.
  2. The status: the connection to FINISH, the FINISH clock, the licence.
  3. The Announcements on / Mute button.
  4. The three tabs.

The window is 1150 × 760 at first (820 × 520 at least). Everything can be set without restarting, except the connection to FINISH. Closing the window shuts VOICE down cleanly: the sentence in progress is dropped, the settings are saved.

The computer's status

Where: the card below the menus

What you seeWhat it means
Starting…, grey dotVOICE has just opened.
Searching for FINISH…, orange dotNo server is set: VOICE is listening for the FINISH announcement on the network (see Connecting VOICE to FINISH).
2 FINISH found: choose below., orange dotSeveral FINISH are announcing themselves (two tracks): one button per FINISH, below. See below.
Connecting to 192.168.1.10:8210…, orange dotFINISH is known, the TCP connection is being made (or restored after a dropout: it retries on its own).
FINISH 192.168.1.10:8210, green dotConnected: VOICE receives the races, the laps, the athletes' voice options and the bell.

The FINISH found

Where: below the status, only when several FINISH are announcing themselves

One button per FINISH, with its name (“FINISH-Starford”, the name displayed by clients set in FINISH). Click the one for your track: VOICE connects to it and remembers it by its name, even if its address changes. To change it later: Choose another FINISH at next launch.

FINISH clock

Where: below the status

FINISH clock 13:42:19 (offset -1 ms, ± 1 ms): the FINISH time as seen from this computer, the measured offset between the two clocks and the accuracy of the measurement. VOICE uses it to say the countdown on the exact second and to judge that a bell has arrived too late. Clock not synchronized: no measurement yet (just after connecting); the countdown waits for FINISH time.

Licence

Where: below the clock, in small type

The licence summary (“Licence valid until 31 March 2027”, “Trial: 12 day(s) left…”), in orange when it is close to expiring. Details: Help → Licence….

Announcements on / Mute

Where: to the right of the status, large button

A button that stays pressed. 🔊 Announcements on (pale green): VOICE talks. When clicked, it becomes 🔇 Mute (pale pink): no more automatic announcements, and the queue is cleared. The log notes “Mute: no more announcements (messages still go through)”.

  • Typed messages still go through: the announcer's microphone is still yours.
  • The bell sent by FINISH still rings (it is turned off in Settings).
  • Mute only lasts until VOICE is closed: VOICE always restarts with Announcements on.

To silence a single race rather than the whole computer: uncheck it in Races received from FINISH.

The three tabs

TabWhat you do there
LiveThe races received and those this computer announces, the sentence in progress, the queue, the log, typed messages.
VoiceOne voice per language, its rate, its volume; Test.
SettingsWhat is announced, the bell, the countdown, the queue, the options for unknown athletes, the connection to FINISH.
