Session
An athlete's training session: the laps, and what happened around them on the track. FINISH calculates it with the crossings of ALL skaters, but sends only those of your athletes.
- PDF report (share) builds the session report and opens Android sharing; Export to CSV shares the laps as a spreadsheet. See Sending the report to the athlete.
- The summary: number of laps (suspect laps are excluded from every calculation), load and date of the curve version used (the one in effect on the day of the session), best lap, average of valid laps, laps led out of valid laps, passes made. Below the summary: the best runs of 2 to 10 consecutive laps (total, average per lap, from lap… to lap…).
- The lap times; in cyan, the laps led. A suspect lap does not appear.
- The laps. Tap a row to write a comment on that lap (it appears in the Note column and in the PDF report).
What is a session?
An athlete's session is their run of laps with no break longer than one hour (adjustable in Settings, one hour at least). FINISH does not end it: a practice can span several FINISH sessions (free session restarted, ice resurfacing in between). Laps are numbered from the start to the end of the session; a “… break · …” line marks the restart, and on the PC the FINISH session column says where each lap comes from.
- A best run never crosses a restart: it stops at the last lap before the break.
- Until one hour has passed since the last passing, the session stays open: an incoming lap is added to it.
- Comments written before version 2.0.23 are kept: two FINISH sessions commented and then combined show both texts one after the other; they become one at the next change.
Official races (competitions)
When the tablet synchronises with a FINISH, it also receives the official races your athletes skated there (once run, never live). They form competition sessions, marked COMPETITION · official race, with the competition, the race and the official result (rank and final time, or did not finish, did not start, disqualified). They never mix with training: a race in the middle of a practice does not split it. Their load counts in the totals and the acute / chronic ratio; progress compares training only.
Speed profile, lane and true speed
On a track with intermediate lines, every lap has its speed profile: the speed (km/h) of each segment between two lines (“0–100 m”: positions from the finish line). The chart shows the average of the session's valid laps; select a lap (in the grid on the PC, in the list on the tablet) to see its own. A segment marked * spans a missed line.
On a long track (two lanes), a full lap is always the track length (400 m): the athlete skates one curve in one lane and the other curve in the other lane, and the crossing makes up the difference; the lap speed is therefore 400 m divided by its time, whatever the lane. What changes are the segments between intermediate lines that lie in a curve: the outer lane covers more distance there (larger radius); in the same time, a curve segment is about 15% faster in the outer lane than in the inner one. The Lane column says “known” (official race: starting lane, then a change at each crossing), “estimated” or “lane unknown” (training: FINISH does not know which lane the athlete trains in; segments are then computed on the measuring line, between the two lanes). If you know in which lane the athlete took the first curve of the session, choose it in Training lane (“Inner on lap 1, then alternating”): the session's segments are recalculated, alternating at each lap as in a race. Each lap's speed also appears in the PDF report, the CSV and the Excel export.
The lap columns
- Group
- Position in the group and size of the group at the crossing that ends the lap (“2/4”: second of four; “alone”). A group: skaters crossing the line within a gap set in FINISH (1.0 s by default) of each other, whatever their number of laps.
- Gap ahead, gap to leader
- To the skater just in front in the group, and to the first of the group; empty at the front.
- At the front
- ●: leading a group of at least two skaters.
- Passes
- “+1 / −0”: skaters of the same pace passed / who passed them during the lap.
- Lapped
- The same, but with skaters of a very different pace (lapped, or lapping them): they do not count in the extra load.
- Load
- The load of this lap from the curve in effect and its extra load.
- Note
- “suspect: missed crossing?” (about twice the normal time) or “suspect: lap too short”; and your comment. A suspect lap is grey and excluded: load, averages, best lap, best runs (a run never goes through it).
If the track has intermediate loops, a line under the lap gives the crossing at each (time since the start of the lap, position in the group).
The session comment
Under the chart: what the athlete should remember from the session, then Save the comment. It opens the PDF report.
Live
During training, “LIVE: the session updates on every lap.” The session receives its laps as they come; at the end, FINISH sends the final version (with the timekeeper's corrections), which replaces the previous one. Your comments are kept.
