Events and context
The two startup windows. The context says which sport, discipline and place you work in; the list of events in that context lets you open one, create one, duplicate it or delete it. An open event takes its place in the Event module of the main window.
At launch, EVENT first shows the context, then the list of events. You come back to them later through and (or the banner's Change event… button).
The context
The same window as the session configuration in FINISH, with the same panels in the same order; what belongs only to the FINISH session (activity, timing mode, folders…) is not there.
- The logos of the national (SKF) and regional (HSK) federations, deduced from the sport, country and province.
- The sport and discipline, with the discipline's image and its track length (can be changed).
- The country and province, with their flags.
- The venue and track; Edit opens the search for a venue and a track.
- The startup countdown: the window confirms itself at the end.
The panels
Each panel expands; its title recalls the choice made (“Sport/Discipline (Long track)”). The lists come from the common data (countries, sports, venues and tracks published by Technofeed, plus what was added locally).
- Sport, Discipline
- Required (“Choose at least the sport and the discipline.”). They filter the list of events and decide what EVENT offers (the discipline's categories, catalogue races, SSR performances in long track speed skating…).
- Track length
- In meters; comes from the discipline, can be changed. It is used for imported .LIF files and as the default value for races.
- Country, Province/State
- Also filter the list of events and identify the federations.
- Venue, Track
- Do not filter the list (an event without a venue would stay invisible): they are offered in the record of a new event. The button next to the venue reloads the lists.
Confirm, Cancel, countdown
Confirm keeps the choice on the computer (with the national federation, offered to new events, and the track length) then opens the list of events. Cancel changes nothing; at launch, it leads to the main window. The close button does not close the window.
Validate automatically after (s) (at launch only, 10 s by default): a competition computer restarts in its context without anyone touching it. The countdown stops as soon as you touch the window, and has no effect while the sport and discipline are missing.
The list of events
| Name | Dates | Type | Entries | Races | Status | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coupe Hollywood longue piste | 2026-11-14 – 2026-11-15 | Time | 38 | 6 | Published | Ovale de Starford |
| Finale régionale HSK | 2027-02-20 | Time | 0 | 8 | Draft | Ovale de Starford |
| Coupe Hollywood 2025 | 2025-11-15 – 2025-11-16 | Time | 41 | 6 | Archived | Ovale de Starford |
- The context on one line; Edit reopens the context window.
- The commands on events.
- The events of the context: name, dates, type (Time or Position), entries, races, status, venue.
- Open the selected event, or continue without an event.
The commands
- New…
- The record of a new event. The message says how many races were created from the template.
- Edit…
- The record of the selected event (the type can no longer be changed there).
- Duplicate…
- A new event with the same races and the same rules, without the entries. The name is asked for (“… (copy)” is offered); a name already taken is asked for again. Handy for the next leg of a cup.
- Delete…
- Deletes the event, its races and its entries after confirmation (“This cannot be undone.”). Refused if there are results: EVENT then offers to archive it (status “Archived”).
- Open
- Opens the event in the Event module (also by double-click or Enter).
- Continue without an event
- The main window with no event open: History, Broadcast and Settings remain usable.
An event's record
- The type, chosen first and fixed afterwards.
- The starting template (creation only), its origin and its description.
Type
- Time (the final time counts)
- Athletes start in heats (pairs, waves, group starts…) and are ranked by time, across all heats. Example: the Coupe Hollywood longue piste.
- Position (the finishing place counts)
- The race is run in rounds (qualifications, quarterfinals, semifinals, finals): the finishing place decides who moves on to the next round. Example: the Omnium Hollywood courte piste.
Template
The starting rules: categories, officiating codes, point tables, performance sources, models and race types. The list shows only templates of the chosen type, in this order: “None (empty event)”, the shared templates of the context's national federation (received through the common data; the first is selected by default), the computer's local templates, then the examples bundled with EVENT. The origin is shown: “Shared (federation, version 3)”, “Local”, “Modified locally”, “Bundled example”.
Create the races of the template: one race per race type of the template, one per gender if it allows several (“500 m Femmes”, “500 m Hommes”…).
The event keeps a copy of the template: changing it afterwards (Event template) touches neither the shared template nor the other events.
The other fields
- Name
- Required and unique: it is the name of the heats' competition in FINISH and the one under which .LIF files are imported.
- Start, End
- The end cannot come before the start. The start date is also used to calculate the categories' age (with the template's reference day).
- Venue, Track
- Offered from the context. The track is also used to recognize personal records “on this track”.
- Federation
- The context's, offered; it is used to match member numbers on import.
- Organizer
- Free text.
- Entries from … to …
- The entry period (the closing date cannot come before the opening date).
- Status
- Draft, Published, Official, Archived: an indication for the list of events.
