Line-up

Where entries become heats. One race at a time: EVENT forms the heats according to the race's rule and the entries' performances, then you adjust them with the mouse in the Line-up view (a column of athletes, columns of heat cards). In Position mode, the Plan, Groups and entry and Standings sub-tabs give the rest.

The top bar

Event

Where: Line-up, top bar

The race whose heats are being formed. The whole tab is about it. With no race: “No races: add some in the Races tab.”

Generate races

Where: Line-up, top bar

Forms the heats according to the race's rule. Raced heats are never touched.

  • Time the seeding is computed if it never has been, then the formation groups, the heats (pairs, group starts, mass start, pursuit) and the lanes, according to the heat formation settings, with a new draw (“8 heat(s) generated.”; the software keeps the draw, see Replay). If there are already heats: confirmation; started or raced heats are first locked to be kept as they are, locked heats stay, the others are redone. The settings are saved with the race at that moment.
  • Position the engine's proposal for the next round (linear distribution, serpentine, X+Y criterion… depending on the rule); nothing is written before Accept. It is only possible when the current round has been fully raced; otherwise the banner names the missing heats (“12C, 12D”).

Heat names follow the race's pattern (otherwise “Pair 3”, “Heat 4”, “12A”).

With the Whole event box ticked, the same button generates the heats of every race.

Whole event

Where: Line-up, top bar, right of Generate races (also in the compact bar's menu)

When ticked, Generate races generates in one click the heats of every race of the event, each with its own heat formation settings (the race's rule: groups, heat size, pairing, lanes, quartets…), exactly as if you generated it alone.

  • Confirmation: if races already have heats, a single question names them, with their number of heats, and says which ones are already exported to FINISH. No: nothing changes. Started, raced or locked heats are never touched.
  • Time each race: seeding computed if it never has been, then groups, heats and lanes, with a new draw.
  • Position each race: the next round, when it is possible, accepted as the engine proposes it. A proposal that needs a choice (final A overflows) is left for the Line-up: the race is skipped.
  • Progress: one bar for the whole event and one per race, the current race in bold. Cancel stops after the current race: the following races do not change.
  • Report: one line per race — generated (and its number of heats), skipped and why (no entrants, heats with results, no round to generate…), error, cancelled — and a summary. The report closes (×); the log keeps it.

  1. The Whole event box, ticked: Generate races covers every race.
  2. The report (during the generation: the progress and Cancel).

Replay Time

Where: Line-up, top bar (also in the compact bar's menu)

Redoes the race's last draw: same entries and same settings, same heats (pairs drawn by lot, lanes, tie-breaks). To redo a draw in front of witnesses, or to go back to the draw after some trials. Grayed out as long as the race has never been generated. Generate races makes a new draw.

The seed of the randomness is no longer shown: the software draws it at each generation, keeps it with the race (it is the one Replay reuses) and records it in the log (“‘500 m Femmes’: 8 heat(s) generated, draw seed 48213077.”).

Skaters per heat Time

Where: Line-up, top bar

At most this number of athletes per heat (pairs and group starts; no limit in mass start or pursuit). It comes from the race's rule (heat size), is saved with it as soon as you change it, and is respected by generation. A full heat refuses an addition but accepts a swap and a change of order; its gauge is green when full, red beyond.

Position the limit is the maximum size of each stage (Plan sub-tab), shown under the title of the section.

Regenerate Position

Where: Line-up, top bar

“Regenerate round 2”: redoes the proposal of the last generated round, as long as nothing in it has been raced or locked. Heats already exported or changed by hand ask for confirmation; nothing is overwritten without it.

Undo, Redo, Refresh

The two arrows (or Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y) undo and redo the actions in the Line-up view: moves, swaps, heat order and groups, formation groups, locks, the “unique start position” setting. Each action is written to the database as soon as it is done; undoing writes the reverse. The next button reloads the race from the database (and the status of the heats in FINISH).

Rename heats

Where: Line-up, top bar

Names the race's heats according to its naming pattern. Never a heat that has started or been raced; a heat named by hand, only if you confirm (no: it keeps its name; yes: it follows the pattern and is no longer “by hand”). The summary says how many were renamed, kept, never renamed (started), and whether there are duplicate names in the event.

The name of a single heat is changed with its card's pencil (a small window): the heat becomes “named by hand”; an empty name gives it back to the pattern; 50 characters at most.

Large text

Where: Line-up, top bar

The race's heats full screen, in large text on a black background, for a public draw or a call room screen: the heat name, and for each athlete their position, name and club. + / − change the size; Esc closes.

Print the heat list

Where: Line-up, top bar (Print…, also in the compact bar's menu); Races tab

Opens the Heat list window of the chosen race, like the report of a FINISH race: the options at the top, the page-by-page preview, Print… at the bottom.

  • Content: the event, the race and its details (date, venue, distance, category, gender, number of heats and athletes); then each heat (wave or pair), with its scheduled time if the schedule knows it and its details (group, round, exported to FINISH…), and a table of its athletes in start order: position (and lane if it differs), colour of the position in words and helmet or cap number, bib, name, club, category, seeding time — or entry time, marked “(entry)” — and the transponders when the athlete records have them.
  • Options: A4 or Letter paper (Letter by default in North America), landscape, one heat per page, colour dots, transponders. The preview follows each option.
  • Print…: the Windows print dialog, with the chosen paper and orientation; “Microsoft Print to PDF” makes a PDF of it.

The layout is plain and reads in black and white: the colour of each position is written (“White”, “Red”), the dot is only an extra.

Collapse the header

Where: Line-up, top bar (chevron on the right); Ctrl+Shift+H

Collapses at once the top bar (race, generation, Replay, athletes per heat…), the banners (last message, stage of the race) and the row of sub-tabs: the full height goes to the columns of the Line-up view. Nothing is lost: a compact bar keeps the chevron that expands, the race choice, the last message and a Menu button with all the bar's commands (Generate races, Whole event, replay or regenerate, undo, redo, reread, rename the heats, Large text, Print the heat list…), the sub-tabs (Views) and full screen. The number of athletes per heat is set by expanding the header. The collapsed state is remembered on the computer; the heat formation settings bar collapses separately.

Line-up full screen

Where: Line-up, top bar (right of the chevron); F11

The EVENT window fills the whole screen, without a frame, without its header or status bar, without the event banner or the row of tabs; the Heats tab header becomes the compact bar (see above). F11, Esc or the button on the right of the compact bar put everything back. Leaving the Heats tab also exits full screen; it is never remembered.

The sub-tabs

Line-up

Where: Line-up, first sub-tab (both modes)

The working view: the athletes column on the left, then the heats as cards. See the Line-up view.

The Line-up view

Heat formation settings Time

Where: Line-up › Line-up, collapsible bar at the top

How generation forms the groups and heats. They come from the race model (template); changing them here applies to this race: “Settings changed: they will be saved with the race at the next generation.”. The formation groups in the athletes column follow the settings live (preview). Collapse the bar to give all the room to the columns; its state is kept on the computer.

Groups (level groups formed from seeding): “Groups of N athletes”, “N equal groups” or “A single group”; and where athletes without a time go: “No time: after the slowest”, “No time: ahead of the fastest” or “No time: a separate group”.

Formation: “Pairs (heats of N lanes)”, “Group starts”, “Mass start”, “Pursuit (one team per lane)”; the running order “Slowest to fastest” or “Fastest to slowest”. With pairs: “Drawn within the group” or “Strict time order (1-2, 3-4…)”, and the lanes “Lanes drawn by lot”, “Fastest on the inside” or “Fastest on the outside”; where an incomplete heat goes: “Incomplete heat: in its place”, “Incomplete heat: first” or “Incomplete heat: last”.

Options shown: the event template may show only the options useful to its discipline (see Formation options shown in EVENT); the others remain available through Show all options.

Show all options Time

Where: Heat formation settings, below the options

This link only appears when the template hides options: “Show all options (12 hidden)” brings them all back, “Show only the template's options” returns to the template's choice. The choice is kept on the computer. Hiding an option does not change its value: generation always follows the event's setting.

Size Time

Where: Heat formation settings

With “Groups of N athletes”: the number of athletes per level group (8: the 8 fastest form group 1, the next 8 group 2…).

Number Time

Where: Heat formation settings

With “N equal groups”: the number of groups, of sizes as equal as possible.

Minimum of the last Time

Where: Heat formation settings

The minimum size of the last group; if smaller, it is merged into the previous one.

Groups by gender Time

Where: Heat formation settings

Separate groups for each gender (a mixed race where women and men do not meet in a heat). An athlete then cannot be dragged into the group of the other gender (“Group 3 is for gender H…”).

Heat size Time

Where: Heat formation settings

The number of athletes per heat: 2 for pairs, 3, 4… In quartets, heats of this size are grouped two by two.

Fill pairs Time

Where: Heat formation settings (pairs)

When a group has an odd number of athletes, the extra one is lent to the next group rather than leaving an incomplete heat.

Quartets Time

Where: Heat formation settings (pairs)

Groups the heats two by two: two pairs form a quartet, raced together (group G1, G2… for FINISH, side by side in the view). The heat size stays free (heats of 3 give groups of 6). With an odd number of heats, the last one starts alone. In a quartet of pairs, the pair that takes positions 1-2 follows the lane setting (the fastest if “Fastest on the inside”, drawn by lot if the lanes are). With pairs, the heats are called “Pair 1”, “Pair 2”…

The box is grayed out when the heat size is 1: quartets need at least 2 athletes per heat, and its tooltip says so. If the size changes to 1, the box is unticked; it becomes active again as soon as the size is 2 or more.

Group: unique start position Time

Where: Heat formation settings

Ticked (default): in a group of heats raced together (a quartet or heats placed side by side by hand), the start positions follow on from one heat to the next — 1-2, 3-4 for two pairs — so that each athlete has their own color and transponders on the track. Unticked: each heat keeps 1..n. The change applies to the heats right away, can be undone with Ctrl+Z and is saved with the race. The positions of a heat that has started, been raced or locked never change.

Rebalance the last heat Time

Where: Heat formation settings (group starts)

With group starts: the last heat, if too small, takes athletes from the previous one so that both are close in size.

Rows of Time

Where: Heat formation settings (mass start)

In mass start: the number of athletes per row on the start line. Next to it: “Heats of” (athletes per heat), “Minimum of the last”, “Equal heats”.

First helmet Time

Where: Heat formation settings (mass start)

The number of the first helmet (numbered helmet cover); the following ones are given in start order.

Teams per heat Time

Where: Heat formation settings (pursuit)

In team pursuit: the number of teams per heat (one per lane), with the lane setting.

Athletes per team Time

Where: Heat formation settings (pursuit)

The number of athletes in each team. Teams are formed by blocks of the seeding ranking, or by the entry's group; not yet by drag and drop.

Recompute the groups Time

Where: Heat formation settings (visible when groups have been adjusted by hand)

An athlete dragged within the athletes column changes formation group: “Groups adjusted by hand: generation follows them.”. This button discards these adjustments and goes back to the groups calculated from the settings (Ctrl+Z to get them back). Changing a group setting does the same.

All cards compact

Where: Line-up › Line-up, display bar

Puts every zone (the athletes column and each column of heats) in compact cards, or all in full cards; the box is half ticked when the zones differ. Each zone also has its own switch (see Compact cards of a zone).

Athlete cards have only one line (without affiliation, records, standings or club), and a heat's athletes fit on a single line: the start position square, in its color, and the initials (“Rosalie DUQUERROY” → “RD”; namesakes in the heat told apart by the following letters: “JTr” / “JTa”). If the line is too short, “…+2” says how many athletes are hidden (tooltip: which ones). Drag and drop also works: left half of a dot, before; right half, after.

Next to it: the zoom (− / +, or Ctrl+mouse wheel, from 50 % to 200 %).

Compact cards of a zone

Where: at the top of each zone: the athletes column, each column of heats

A switch that only applies to its zone: for example a detailed athletes column and compact heats. Each zone keeps its state on the computer (the heats column in Time mode, each round in Position mode).

Minimum rest (min)

Where: Line-up › Line-up, display bar

An athlete who races twice within less than this time (based on the planned times of the schedule) is flagged: a “heats too close” badge on the heat card, an alert icon on their row (tooltip: the other heat and its time). 30 by default; 0: never.

Athletes

Where: Line-up › Line-up, athletes column

The athletes entered in the race (neither withdrawn nor absent), in entry order. The list chooses which ones to show:

Not placed
Those who are in no heat of the chosen column (Time: in no heat). The “unplaced” badge counts them.
All entries
The whole list.
Placed in the chosen column
Those who race in it.

A click on a heat column's header chooses it (by default, the current round).

An athlete's card: avatar (photo, otherwise the record's image, otherwise initials on their colors), entry rank, name, gender, bib, club, federation (tooltip: affiliations and numbers), seeding time and the rule that gave it (Performance, Other race, Entry, Joker, Corrected manually), personal best over the distance and “On this track:”, place in the “Overall standings:”, statuses (Joker, Guest, Absent, Withdrawn, Time corrected by hand) and “In:” the heat they are in. Hovering over an athlete lights up all their cards.

Time The column is arranged in formation groups (“Group 2 · F · 4 athlete(s)”, one background per group): dragging an athlete onto another places them before (top half) or after (bottom half), in that athlete's group; onto a group's header, at its end. The order within the group is the one generation uses in “Strict time order”.

Removal: cascade replacement Time

Where: Line-up › Line-up, athletes column

When ticked, removing an athlete from a heat (dropping them in the athletes column, or Del) moves the best-ranked athlete of the next group up into their place, in the same lane, and so on.

Heat cards

Time one column of rows: one heat alone per row, or the heats of a group side by side (raced together, code G1, G2… renumbered in running order). Position one column per round of the plan, created in advance (“To generate once the previous round has been raced.”), one section per stage (X+Y criterion, number of heats).

A card shows:

  • the status dot, in FINISH's colors: white Planned, yellow Exported to FINISH, green In progress (partial results), blue Finished (all results), gray Raced (official results); the most advanced state of EVENT and FINISH;
  • “3. Pair 3” (running number and name), the pencil (rename), the padlock (lock: a regeneration no longer touches the heat) and, Position, results entry;
  • the group (G1), the fill “2/2” and its gauge, the distance, the planned time, the status;
  • the spread of seeding times (“spread 0,92 s”): green under 1 % of the fastest, orange under 3 %, red beyond;
  • the badges “same club” (information only), “heats too close”, “changed manually”, “named by hand”, “incomplete”;
  • the athletes in start order, each on the color of their position (the event's start colors, in the template), with lane, helmet or team, entry time and result; the club in orange if they share the heat with a teammate.

Right-click a card: “Lock or unlock”, and Time “Run with the next heat (same group)”, “Remove from the group”; Position “Enter or correct the results…”.

Drag and drop

While dragging, a ghost card follows the mouse and a text says what will happen (“Insert Kaja Nowicka at position 2 in “Pair 5””, “Swap with …”, or the reason for a refusal); on drop, exactly that happens, written immediately, logged and undoable.

Refused: changing the athletes of a heat that has started or been raced (in EVENT or in FINISH) or is locked; moving from one round to another; touching the heats while a proposal is open. Keyboard: click an athlete then Del (remove), Ctrl+↑ / Ctrl+↓ (Time: previous / next heat; Position: one position earlier / later).

Column widths are set with their splitter (double-click: fit to content); widths are kept per race.

The engine's proposal Position

After Generate races, a panel on the right shows the proposed heats (“Proposed heats”), the “Explanations” (for each athlete: qualified by place, by time, advanced, not qualified and why) and the “Draws”. Adjust (drag and drop athletes between heats) lets you correct before accepting. Accept writes the heats; Cancel the proposal writes nothing. When final A overflows, you must choose before accepting: Safety semi-finals (the plan changes: A+ and B+) or Keep final A.

Entering results Position

A card's pencil (or its right-click) opens a panel: finishing place, time (44.123 or 1:02.345), the template's officiating code and reason (required for a penalty), while waiting for the import from FINISH. Places from times gives a place to the rows that have a time; Save. The same entry exists in the Results tab.

The Plan sub-tab Position

Where: Line-up, sub-tab

The race's plan: its rounds and stages (qualification, quarterfinals, semifinals, final A, finals B…), proposed based on the number of active entries — the row of the model's progression table that applies, otherwise the automatic calculation. At the top: the rule and where it comes from, “Proposed plan (not saved yet)” or “Saved plan”, the number of active entries and rounds, the point table.

The grid: round, stage, athletes, Heats (0: based on the athletes), Max. size (0: the rule's), X+Y criterion (the first X of each heat, plus Y more, by time or by rank), generated. Stages not yet generated can be adjusted.

Save the plan Position

Where: Line-up › Plan

Writes the plan (and its adjustments) into the race. Otherwise, it is saved with the first generated round. The schedule uses the saved plan to plan the rounds to come.

Delete the rounds… Position

Where: Line-up › Plan

Deletes all the race's rounds and heats, after confirmation; the plan is recalculated. To start from scratch (before the competition: entries changed, wrong plan).

The Groups and entry sub-tab Position

Where: Line-up, sub-tab

Entry ranking: the order in which athletes enter the first round — priorities and jokers first, then the rule's sort (seeding time, rank or points); ties drawn by lot at generation. Rank, bib, athlete, club, time, note (Joker, Pre-qualified, No time).

Groups of the race: the template's level groups (target size, minimum of the last group, special cases, priorities), with their explanation (“Target size 8, minimum of the last group 4: 3 group(s) …”).

Write these groups to the entries… Position

Where: Line-up › Groups and entry

Copies the calculated group into each athlete's entry, after confirmation (an entry's group applies to the whole event); logged. This group is the one used for the overall total and the combined standings by group.

The Standings sub-tab Position

Where: Line-up, sub-tab

The race's final standings, by the engine: final A, A+, B…, then those eliminated in each round; ties 1-2-3-3-5. Rank, bib, athlete, club, ranked in (the heat that ranks them), time, code, point table points. “Provisional ranking: the race is not finished.” until all heats are official.

Compute the overall total Position

Where: Line-up › Standings, “Event overall total by group”

The total of the points of all races that have rounds, by entry group, according to the template's cumulative rule (sum, or N best; cards): rank, bib, athlete, total, note (“Excluded (card)”…). The text says which races are counted.
