Overall standings Time
The race's timing dashboard: for each athlete, their laps, technology by technology (photocell, transponder, photo finish, manual timer), the time FINISH selects and the official time. This is where you check that the systems agree, correct, type in a manual time and make results official.
It is the second sub-tab of the Standings tab, in Time mode only. It reads what FINISH writes to the database while it compiles the times (shared database), or what the timing systems' .LIF files bring. All competitions, read-only, can be viewed in History.
- The choices: race, distance covered, category, gender, status, search for an athlete.
- Undo / redo, the Import, Make official, Outputs, Display menus, the legend (“?”), refresh (F5).
- The box of corrections not yet saved, at the end of the bar (only if there are any).
- The status line, at the bottom: athletes, ranked, without time, annotated; the lap summary (gaps, missing, duplicates); on the right, the last message.
- The “Result” tile: the time that ranks (in italics if provisional), the gap to the leader, the official time (OFF), the manual final time (MAN, editable), the points.
- A lap tile: the lap time from each technology (PC, TR) and the MAN cell, then the cumulative time selected by FINISH (FIN) and the cumulative official time (OFF, faded until there is one).
- A lap where the technologies do not agree: red frame and gap (Δ). On the next lap, the transponder is missing: orange frame. On the first lap, a manual time typed in, not yet saved (yellow background).
- The selection bar, at the bottom of the grid.
The choices
Overall standings Time
Where: Standings, second sub-tab
The whole sub-tab: a grid of tiles, limited to the open event (the competition is the event's name). In Position mode, it does not exist: the race standings are in the Line-up module, and the overall standings table of a Position event can be viewed in History.
Event Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
The EVENT race shown, one for the whole view. The overall standings rows are linked to it by the heat names (those sent to FINISH) or by the link with the FINISH race.
Distance covered Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
The final time or a split time: the ranking is made at this distance (“1500 m — final time”, “1100 m — split time”: the ranking at the 1100 m split).
Category Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
Ranks the athletes of this category among themselves (the ranks are redone).
Gender Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
All genders, Women, Men, Mixed: hides the other rows (without redoing the ranks). The gender is the entry's; an unknown gender always passes.
Status Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
Shows only the rows in one state: Provisional, Official, Not official, Times entered by hand, Modified (not saved), No time, Annotated (DNF, DQ…), With alerts (gap, missing, duplicate). A grid that is empty because of the filters says so, with Remove the filters.
Search for an athlete Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
Each word typed in the name, bib, club or reference, ignoring accents and case. Hides the other rows.
The bar and its menus
Undo (Ctrl+Z) Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
Undoes the session's last action (the tooltip names it: “Undo: …”), up to 100 actions. An entry not yet saved goes back to the previous value; a write already made to the database (corrections saved, take this time, official, provisional times kept, positions) is written back as before, field by field, only what the action had changed. If the row has changed since (another computer, an import), EVENT says so and asks before writing back. The .LIF import is not part of the history.
Redo (Ctrl+Y) Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar
Redoes what “Undo” undid (also Ctrl+Shift+Z). The history ends when EVENT is closed.
Import Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar (menu)
Import .LIF files and watch the timing systems' folders. Not needed when FINISH writes to the same database: its times are already there. The same settings are in Settings › .LIF folders.
Import now Time
Where: Import menu
Imports the new or changed files of the configured folders right away.
Import .LIF files… Time
Where: Import menu
Files chosen by hand, under the system chosen in “System of the files”.
Import a folder of .LIF files… Time
Where: Import menu
All the .lif files of a folder, under the chosen system.
System of the files: Time
Where: Import menu
The system that produced the files imported by hand (Transponder, Photocell, Photo finish, Manual timing): their time goes into its column. Files from watched folders take their folder's system.
Watch the .LIF folders Time
Where: Import menu (box)
Automatically imports a new or changed file in the configured folders, whether the tab is shown or not. The same setting as in Settings.
Folders of the .LIF files… Time
Where: Import menu
Opens Settings on the folders (one per technology).
Import everything again… Time
Where: Import menu
Forgets what has already been imported and takes all the files in the folders again, after confirmation.
Official times and positions Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, “Make official” menu
The menu for what makes the standings official, in one go.
Keep the provisional times as official… Time
Where: Make official menu
After confirmation, the provisional times of the rows shown become their official time; official times already decided do not change. Filter first (one category, the provisional ones…) to make only part of them official.
Save the official positions Time
Where: Make official menu
Writes the position of each row of the race standings, at the chosen distance and across all categories, to the database. Nothing is written until this command is used; the “live position” (Details under the name) shows the difference from the saved position.
Outputs Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar (menu)
The rows shown, in screen order: as CSV or on paper.
Export to CSV… Time
Where: Outputs menu
The rows shown as CSV: rank, bib, athlete, club, time, gap, official time, time of each technology, points, annotation, comment, status…
Print… Time
Where: Outputs menu
The rows shown, on paper or as PDF (“Microsoft Print to PDF”).
Publish official results to ChronoFEED… Time
Where: Outputs menu
Only EVENT publishes to the ChronoFEED results database (FINISH never sends anything there), and only official results: the selection (otherwise the rows shown) is sent, encrypted on this computer with each athlete's key (the server sees no names). Only rows set to Official and saved are sent: a provisional row, an unofficial row or a row with a correction not yet saved is never sent, whatever is selected. If nothing is official, the publication is refused with a message and nothing is sent; first set the rows to "Official" (selection bar), save the corrections, then try again.
An EVENT licence, the event's sport or discipline and the athletes' complete identity (first name, last name, date of birth, country) are needed; the message says how many were sent and why the others were not (not official, unsaved correction, no record, incomplete identity). An athlete who refused publication, or a result deleted at their request, is refused by the server. Publishing the same rows again creates no duplicate. Each publication is written to the event log.
with lap details Time
Where: Outputs menu (box)
The export and the printout add, for each lap, the time selected by FINISH and the official time. When printed: one column per lap (the official one, otherwise the selected one in parentheses), on a landscape page.
Display Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar (menu)
The view settings: sorting, details, preferred system, ties, gap threshold, zoom, automatic refresh.
Sort by Time
Where: Display menu
Rank (standings order, default), Bib, Athlete, Club, Time, Official time, Gap, Points, Annotation, Status, Alerts; Reverse order. Empty values always go to the end; times and gaps are sorted in seconds, bibs as numbers. A click on the “Athlete and result” header sets the sort back to rank.
Details under the name Time
Where: Display menu (box)
Shows under the name the points total, the agreement of the systems, the saved position and the live position, the heat.
Tiles in split by default Time
Where: Display menu (box)
Checked: the tiles show and take the split, the cumulative time at each passing; unchecked (default): the lap time. Applies to the athletes whose Split / Lap time selector has not been touched during the session. Kept on this computer.
Refresh every 5 s Time
Where: Display menu (box)
Reloads the database every 5 seconds while FINISH compiles the times, as long as the view is shown. Never during an entry; the unsaved corrections, the selection and the scrolling stay.
Ties: dense positions (1, 1, 2) Time
Where: Display menu (box)
Ticked: after two tied first places, the next one is 2nd. Unticked: it is 3rd.
Provisional time: preferred system Time
Where: Display menu
A row without an official time is ranked with the time of this system; if it is missing, with the time of another one. The same setting as in Settings.
Flag gaps above (s) Time
Where: Display menu
A gap between the times of the same lap, from one technology to another, larger than this threshold frames the tile in red: 0.05 by default. Changing the threshold recalculates without reloading the database.
Zoom Time
Where: Display menu
Enlarges or shrinks the tiles, from 50 % to 200 % (also Ctrl+mouse wheel). For long distances with many athletes: only the rows on screen are drawn.
Technology legend Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, “?” button
Hover or click: the colors and labels of each technology, the row states and tile marks, and the gestures.
Red frame: gap beyond the threshold · orange frame: missing, duplicate or extra lap · ×2 duplicate · ≈ estimated finish · ✗ invalidated · Σ overall standings only · ✎ entered in EVENT.
Refresh Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, bar (F5)
Reloads the overall standings and the laps from the database. A refresh updates the rows in place: the selection, the scrolling and the entry stay; nothing is redone while a cell is being edited.
The tiles
Overall standings tiles Time
Where: Standings › Overall standings, in the middle
One row per athlete of the race, in standings order (ranked, without time, annotated), then the athletes who are not yet in the overall standings (“not skated yet”, “no heat in FINISH”: nothing can be corrected there).
The athlete's block, on the left, stays in place when scrolling: rank badge (gold, silver, bronze), name, “#bib · club · category”, status badge, annotation code in red, comment in italics, lap alerts. Then the “Result” tile: the time that ranks (in italics if provisional; its source in a tooltip) and the gap, OFF the official time, MAN the manual final time (a cell to type in), and the points. Its width can be set with the mouse and is kept.
- The states
- “Modified (not saved)” (yellow background); “Official” (marked official, pale green background); “Time entered by hand” (the official time equals none of the measured times, pale blue background); “Official time” (taken from a system, not yet marked); “Provisional” (orange badge); “No time” (gray).
On the right, the heats of the athlete in the race, under a header “Pair 3 · 1500 m · PC finished, TR finished”, and one tile per lap: one colored row per technology present (PC, TR, PF, MAN) with the lap time, then FIN (the cumulative time selected by FINISH: the master computer's technology, otherwise the preferred system) and OFF (the cumulative official time, bright green). Red frame: the largest gap between technologies exceeds the threshold; orange frame: a technology has nothing for this lap, duplicate, extra lap; pink background: no measurement although the lap should be done; “1100 m · coming”: not yet raced.
All tiles are always shown, even before the race: each header is the distance at that passing (1500 m long track: 300 m, 700 m, 1100 m, 1500 m), and an athlete FINISH does not yet have in any race gets “coming” tiles.
Type a manual time
In each tile of a raced lap, the MAN row is a cell: type the lap time (“41.23”, “41,23”, “1:02.345”). Enter or Tab confirms and moves to the next lap (Shift+Tab: previous), Esc cancels the typing. The time typed is added to the manual cumulative time of the previous lap (on the first lap, it is the cumulative time): a lap whose previous lap has no manual time is refused. The row becomes “modified”; Save corrections writes the cumulative time. The manual final time is typed directly in the “Result” tile.
Selecting several tiles
The selection follows the usual Windows rules, everywhere: a click replaces the selection, Ctrl+click adds or removes, Shift+click takes a range from the last click, Ctrl+Shift+click adds that range.
The lap and athlete headers
- Row of lap headers, above the tiles: one header per lap, titled with its distance (“300 m”, “700 m”…); when athletes race several heats in the race, one group per heat (“Race 2”). It stays at the top when you scroll through the athletes and follows the tiles from left to right. A click selects the whole column of that lap for the displayed athletes; Shift+click, a range of columns (“300 m” to “1100 m”).
- Row header, the strip to the left of each athlete: a click selects their whole row; Shift+click, a range of rows (from the last athlete clicked to this one).
- A tile: click, Ctrl+click, and Shift+click for the rectangle of tiles up to the last one clicked. The title of a tile and the name (or rank badge) of an athlete work like the headers.
Tiles, columns and rows combine. Selected tiles have a blue outline and tint; a header is blue when everything it designates is selected. Esc or × deselects. The selection stays when the data are read again (refresh, import); a row hidden by a filter leaves it.
- The row of lap headers: “700 m” and “1100 m” are selected for all displayed athletes (in blue).
- Rosalie Duquerroy's row header: all her tiles are selected (in blue).
- The selection bar: its actions apply to the six tiles.
The selection bar then says “6 tile(s) selected — 3 athlete(s)” and its actions apply to all the tiles: Take the time of (a technology's cumulative time becomes the official time of each tile), Clear (the official time or the manual time), Official, Not official, Correct… and Annotation… (for the athletes of those tiles), Compare… (a single tile). A single confirmation says how many tiles and athletes are affected; Ctrl+Z undoes it all in one go. Right-clicking a selected tile offers the same actions.
Split or lap time
Under each athlete's name, two buttons: Split and Lap time. They change the display and entry of the tiles of that athlete only, for the session. In lap time, each line shows the time of the lap alone and the MAN box takes the lap time (added to the previous lap's cumulative time). In split, each line shows the cumulative time at the passing and the MAN box takes a cumulative time: a missing lap does not prevent typing the next one. The overall standings always keep cumulative times; the conversions are exact to the thousandth (the lap times shown add up exactly to the split shown).
Right-click and double-click
- Double-click a technology's time in a tile (or right-click: “Take this time: Photocell (1:39.590)”, the cumulative time that would become official): after a confirmation that shows the cumulative official time before → after, this time becomes the lap's official time (the overall standings row at that distance).
- Right-click a tile: “Compare the technologies for this lap…”: a window lines up each technology (lap, cumulative, “Δ kept”, “Δ official”, notes) with a Take button per row; and “Enter this lap's manual time”.
- Double-click the athlete's block (or F2): the “Correct” window (below).
- Right-click a row or a selection: Correct the official time… (one row), Correct the points…, Annotation (code and reason)…, Comment…, Mark “official” / “not official”, Take a system's final time, Discard the unsaved entry, Row history…. An action that is not possible stays visible, grayed out, with its reason in a tooltip.
Invalidating or restoring a passing is not offered: FINISH rewrites the validity of its laps each time the heat is saved.
When the grid is empty
A banner says why: “FINISH does not have this event's heats yet”, “FINISH's heats do not match the race's” (with the expected names and FINISH's), “3 heat(s) out of 9 not yet in FINISH”, or “This race has no heats yet”. Its buttons: Send to FINISH, Read FINISH again, Import .LIF files….
Corrections
A correction (official time, points, annotation, comment, manual time) remains an entry: the row is yellow, “modified”, until it is saved. Entries survive refreshes.
Save corrections Time
Where: yellow box “n unsaved correction(s)”
Writes all the corrections (official time, annotation, points, comment, manual times) and records them in the log (“…, including 2 manual time(s)”). All the rows are read first: an unreadable entry stops everything and the message names it. The box appears only if there are corrections.
Discard corrections Time
Where: yellow box
After confirmation, sets the corrected rows (not yet saved) back to the database values.
The selection bar appears at the bottom of the grid as soon as a row is selected (“3 rows selected”); × or Esc deselects. Its commands act on all the selected rows.
Correct… Time
Where: selection bar (and right-click)
The “Correct” window: Official time (one row only; “45.100”, “1:02.250”; empty: no official time), Points, Annotation (code) (the codes of the event's table, plus DNF, DQ, DNS), Reason (the reasons that lead to this code; an asterisk if the code requires one; it goes at the start of the comment: “P-CHARGE — text”), Comment. In a batch, each field has its own “apply” box. Apply: the rows become “modified”; “Save corrections” writes them; Ctrl+Z undoes. The “Annotation…” button opens the same window on the annotation.
Official Time
Where: selection bar (and right-click)
Marks the selected rows “official” (written right away, can be undone). An official row has a pale green background.
Not official Time
Where: selection bar (and right-click)
Removes the “official” mark.
Take the time of Time
Where: selection bar (list of systems)
A system's final time (“Take the “Photo finish” final time”) becomes the official time of the selected rows; those that have no time from this system do not change. For a single lap: right-click its tile.
History… Time
Where: selection bar (one row)
What the session's actions changed for the row (“14:02:11 Mark “official”: marked “official””), then the log lines that name it.
