View editor
The layout workshop: here you choose a view's fields, position them and style them, while watching the real rendering. It opens with Ctrl+E or the View editor… button in the control panel.
- The toolbar: the view to edit, its commands, those of the selected element, the live preview.
- The filter of the “Fields” list.
- The fields: one box per piece of information; ticked, it is in the view.
- Remove the selected element.
- The preview: the real rendering; this is where you select, move and resize the elements.
- The sheets: the Element tab (the selected element) and the View tab (the whole view).
- The status bar.
A view is made of elements: each shows a piece of information (a field) at a position, with a style. The view type says how the elements repeat (one card per athlete, per race, one row per athlete…).
Zone widths
The two splitters
Where: between the Fields list and the preview, and between the preview and the tabs
The two vertical strips on either side of the preview can be dragged with the mouse: the left one sets the width of the Fields list (180 to 600 pixels), the right one the width of the Element and View tabs (300 to 800 pixels). The preview takes the rest, never less than 300 pixels. Long field names or a busy tab can then be read without being cut off; a larger preview helps place elements to the pixel.
- A double-click on a splitter gives its zone back its default width (250 pixels for the fields, 360 for the tabs).
- The widths are remembered in the computer's settings (
reglages.json) and used again the next time the editor opens. In a window that is too narrow, the side zones shrink on their own to leave room for the preview. - The fields list and each tab scroll vertically when their content is taller than the window.
The toolbar
The view: choose, create, save
Where: left of the toolbar
- The list of views
- The view to edit, among those in the views folder (and the delivered view “Classement (par défaut)”).
- New
- A copy of the default view, named “New view” (“New view 2”…).
- Duplicate
- A copy of the open view, named “… (copy)”.
- Save (Ctrl+S)
- Writes the view into the views folder
(
Vues\<name>.vue.json). If its name has changed (View tab, Name), the old file is deleted and the scenario moments that used it follow the new name. The default view cannot be saved: “The default view cannot be saved: duplicate it first.” - Delete…
- After confirmation (“Delete view "…"?”), deletes the view's file. The default view cannot be deleted.
Closing the editor with unsaved changes asks: “Save changes to the view?” (Yes, No, Cancel).
Cancel, Redo
Where: toolbar; Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y
Every change can be undone, one at a time (the Cancel button). Changes to the same setting made less than a second and a half apart (typing “120”, dragging an element) count as a single undo.
Copy style, Paste style
Where: toolbar; Ctrl+Shift+C, Ctrl+Shift+V
Copies the colours, the colour source, the image formatting, the border, the opacity, the font and the alignments of the selected element, and applies them to another one without touching its position, size or information: ten elements made uniform in ten clicks.
Duplicate item, Foreground, Background
Where: toolbar
Duplicate item (Ctrl+D): a copy offset by 10 pixels, in the foreground; it has its own box in the list (“Athlete name (2)”). Foreground and Background change the altitude: the highest is drawn in front.
Live scoreboard, Received data
Where: right of the toolbar
- Live scoreboard
- The scoreboard screen follows the editor, without saving: you set up the view while watching it on the big screen. Nothing is written to disk before “Save”.
- Received data
- The preview shows the races received from FINISH (and the overall standings received from EVENT) rather than the sample values and the sample standings.
The “Fields” list
One box per piece of information
Where: left column
The list has one box per piece of information TABLEAU can show: the field catalogue, first the card fields, then the banner fields (marked banner), each in alphabetical order.
- Ticking a piece of information the view does not have adds the element: in the banner or in the card depending on the information, in the foreground, white text in Segoe UI 18, selected so it can be positioned right away (an athlete image arrives as a square; a lapping list, as a large rectangle).
- Unticking makes it invisible without deleting it: ticked again, it comes back in its place, with its style.
- The filter searches the labels, ignoring case and accents (“team” finds “Team (pursuit)…”); ✕ clears it. Ticked only: only the view's fields. The selected element keeps its box even if the filter would hide it.
The stacking order is set with Foreground and Background; the “In the banner” box on the sheet changes an element's place.
Remove
Where: under the list; Del key
Deletes the selected element from the view: its position and style are lost (Cancel brings it back). To only hide it, untick its box.
The preview
The real rendering
Where: in the centre
The preview is drawn by the same code as the scoreboard screen: what you see there is what the scoreboard will draw. By default, each element shows its sample value (its own, otherwise that of its information: “TREMBLAY, Marie”, “30.12”…), a few empty cards and, for an athlete image, a silhouette; the overall standings view shows sample standings (two races, one over three pages).
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Select an element | Click in the preview, or on its name in the list |
| Move | Drag; or the arrow keys, by the “Step (arrows)” (5 pixels by default) |
| Resize | The pink handle at the corner; or Ctrl+arrows |
| Remove | Del |
| Duplicate | Ctrl+D |
| Copy, paste style | Ctrl+Shift+C, Ctrl+Shift+V |
| Undo, redo | Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y |
| Save | Ctrl+S |
The arrows, Del and Ctrl+D act on the selected element when you are not typing in a field.
The status bar
Where: at the bottom
What just happened (“"Starford standings" opened”, “"Athlete name" added”, “Style pasted”, “"…" saved”, “Image "…" added to the backgrounds folder”…) and, on the right in orange, modified, not saved.
