Field catalogue

All the fields in the view editor's “Fields” list, grouped: what each one shows and where its value comes from. A ticked field becomes an element of the view, in a card or in the banner.

The athlete

What FINISH broadcasts in the row of each athlete in the race. In an athlete card: that athlete; in a race card or the banner: the leader.

The images (“Athlete (photo)”, “Athlete (image)”, “Athlete (avatar)”, those of the “EVENT standings” and the logos) all share the same image formatting. Each field linked to the athlete can take its colours from the field, the start position or the athlete (athlete record, session).

Lapping and training

FINISH lapping keeps the latest lap passing on the track (Settings → Lapping). Its elements go into the banner and take the background and text of the athlete who skated the lap: by default their starting colour; the element's Colors list can also choose the athlete's own colours (athlete record, session: FINISH 2.0.18) or the field's. In the last 10, each tile takes its own athlete's colours. They are emptied when FINISH disables or resets lapping, when FINISH goes silent, and as soon as there is no race left in the FINISH tabs. The min/max lap counts only exist in training (FINISH session in Training activity, athlete with a min or a max).

FINISH overall standings

The athlete's position among all the times of the competition over the same distance, which FINISH keeps in its database (“Keep the general classification in the database” ticked in FINISH, races with a competition; a training session has none). The distance compared is the last one the athlete completed. Refreshed every 10 s.

Overall, differenceWith FINISH 2.0.26, their gap to the reference snapshotted at the start of the race (the athlete at the Leader position of the overall standings at that moment): their cumulative time at the lap minus the reference's at the same lap; ahead (“-01.50”, at the finish too when they beat it) with the “Overall: ahead” colours (green background, white text), behind (“+00.21”) with the “Overall: behind” colours (red background, white text); empty if the reference has no time at that lap. Overall leader next lap. These five banner fields show what the overall leader did on the lap the best displayed athlete is about to complete, so viewers see what it takes to catch the leader. The best displayed athlete is, in the view's first race in progress, the best placed of those the view shows who are still on the track. Everything stays empty until someone has finished the event, and when nobody is on the track any more. Requires FINISH 2.0.17.

Which leader? With FINISH 2.0.23, the leader is the athlete at the Leader position set in the FINISH command strip (1 by default: the real first; 2 or 3 for youth, when the first is in a class of their own). Changed during a race, it applies at once; as long as fewer athletes than that position have finished the event, the fields stay empty. Since FINISH 2.0.26, a started race shows the snapshot taken at its start: the athlete who held that position at that moment, frozen until the end of the race, even if an athlete of the race takes the lead or beats their time (they will be the reference of the next race); a position changed during the race is taken again from the standings before the race. Each field can carry the leader symbol (the same graphic as the Live track ghost): left of the text, instead of the image for the flag and the photo.

Live track

Live track bannerThe race's track seen from above: the event leader (one ghost, with its symbol) where they were at the same race time, and the athletes on the track. A drawn element, with no text.FINISH

1LBMG1KLIJGHEFCDAB
A long-track 1500 m, 62 s after the start: the pair (MG, starting position 1; LB, position 2) at the crossing of their second lap, just behind the ghost of the event leader (gold medal, position 1). Right, the same field as an inset; below, a tight short-track pack, each chip at its true place. Invented names.

What the audience sees. The race's track, in its shape (two straights, two bends, the finish at the bottom right, racing anticlockwise, like the FINISH animated track), and on it: the ghost of the event leader according to the FINISH overall standings — the athlete at FINISH's Leader position (1: the first) — where they were at the same race time in their own race, with its symbol: rabbit, checkered flag, gold, silver or bronze medal (the position written on it), or a chosen image; with FINISH 2.0.26, it is the reference snapshotted at the start of the race, the same as for the “Overall, difference” gap, which does not change during the race; and the athletes on the track, each in their colour (that of their athlete record, otherwise that of their starting position; with the “Colour by start pos.” option checked in FINISH, that of their starting position first, as everywhere else) with their initials. Nothing else: no gap, no name, no record (other fields show them).

When. Only during a race in progress of 3 laps or more, when at least as many athletes as the leader position have finished the event (just one with position 1). Otherwise the element is hidden, background included. The track shape is that of FINISH (its “Track dimensions…”, otherwise the standard: 400 m oval with two lanes, 111.12 m short track), or the one set in TABLEAU (Live race); with neither, default dimensions for the track length. The event is the FINISH overall standings group: same competition, discipline, mode, distance and gender (same index if the standings are kept by index); “Keep the overall standings in the database” must be ticked in FINISH.

Where the chips are. A ghost is placed by its actual passings (lap ends and intermediate lines), at equal distance covered; an athlete on the track, from their last passing (or last intermediate line) at the speed FINISH predicts for this lap. If they are behind the prediction, they wait on the line; at each passing, the gap is made up in a second and a half, without jumping or moving back. In long track, each is in their lane and changes lane at the crossing of each full lap (not during the opening); the ghost, whose lane FINISH does not keep, follows the lane divider. Each chip is at its true position: two athletes at the same place (short-track pack, ghost next to an athlete) overlap, the one further ahead on top. The TABLEAU display delay applies too.

To scale. One scale for both directions: the track keeps its real proportions (inner radius, lane width, straight length), at any size and sharp (vector): large, or as an inset in a corner. It is centred in the element's rectangle; if the rectangle does not have the track's proportions, empty bands (the element's background) remain on the sides or at the top and bottom. Its own settings (chip diameter, initials size, track colours, ghost symbol): Live track in the element sheet. FINISH 2.0.22 is required.

Records

FINISH attaches to each race the records for its distance and gender (Tools → Records in FINISH); the Records tab of the race sheet, in FINISH, shows what is sent. Format: “time LAST NAME, First name (COUNTRY)”. A mixed race, or one whose gender cannot be deduced, receives none. “Junior”: a category that starts with “J”.

Team pursuit

FINISH attaches each team's result to the header of a team pursuit. The element shows the team of the card's athlete (race card: that of its leader). A race that is not a team pursuit leaves these elements empty; in a pursuit, an athlete's overall standing is that of their team.

The three training lap counts

“Total no. of laps” counts all the laps skated; “Laps in min/max (all laps)”, those within the athlete's min/max; “Laps in min/max, reset (current streak)”, the latest of these laps in a row. Example: min 10 s, max 12 s, laps of 10 · 11 · 13 · 12 s: total 4, laps in min/max 3, streak 1 (the 13 reset the streak, the 12 restarted it). All three are displayed as the number alone (“7”); to read “7/10”, place two elements side by side. They all start from zero at each new training session. See the scenario Training and lapping.

A field stays empty?

  • The race is not loaded, in progress or finished in FINISH, or the view does not allow its state (Race states shown).
  • FINISH does not have the information: no colour for this start position, no record at this distance, no min/max for this athlete, a race that is not a team pursuit, “Keep the general classification in the database” unticked.
  • FINISH is older than the field: start colours and records (2.0.9), lapping (2.0.13), team pursuit (2.0.14), last ten laps as soon as connected (2.0.15), record image and min/max counts (2.0.16), athlete's colours in the lapping (2.0.18), live track (2.0.22).
  • The fields with no source are always empty.
