Control panel
The scoreboard's controls: where the data comes from, which view for which moment, for how long, the advertising, the files. F2 shows or hides it; it is never part of the broadcast picture when it is detached onto another screen.
- The header: Detach, the shortcut reminder, the licence status.
- The connection status to FINISH and the clock.
- The connection mode: local network or Redis.
- EVENT's overall standings, a second source.
- The scenario: the moment displayed and the buttons to force one.
- The views for each moment and the preview.
- The durations and the display delay.
- The advertising.
- The files: help, licence, language, editor, views, folders.
- The log.
A changed setting is saved at once (reglages.json file, see Files). Only the server address
waits for the next startup; the connection mode and the FINISH and EVENT boxes take effect immediately, without restarting the scoreboard.
The header
Detach / Attach
Where: top right of the panel
Puts the panel in its own window, “ChronoFEED-TABLEAU — control”, to place on another screen; “Attach” puts it back in the scoreboard. The graphics operator thus keeps the scoreboard full screen on the screen captured by the video, and the controls on the second one.
- anything done on the detached panel never appears in the broadcast;
- the window gets its position back at the next startup, if that screen is still connected;
- closing it only hides it: F2 opens it again, and the controls never come back on their own onto the captured screen;
- full screen hides the built-in panel, not the detached panel; the Licence and About windows open above the panel.
Under the title: the shortcut reminder (“F2: panel · F11 or double-click: full screen · F5: reload views · Ctrl+E: editor”) and the licence status (in orange when it needs your attention).
CONNECTION
The connection status
Where: CONNECTION, under the “Receive FINISH” box
| Text | What it means |
|---|---|
| Starting… | The scoreboard is looking for FINISH (“searching for FINISH…”). |
| Connected to 192.168.10.20 · 2 race(s) in progress · 3,412 batches | Connected to FINISH; the races in its tabs and the change batches received. |
| Connected through Redis to "FINISH-Starford" (…) · … | Connected through your Redis server (Redis mode). |
| 3 FINISH found: choose below. | Several FINISH are announcing themselves: choose yours. |
| Not connected (192.168.10.20) | The server does not answer; a new attempt every 2 s. |
| FINISH is not followed (box unticked): no live race. | The Receive FINISH box is unticked. |
| Redis mode: enter the credentials of your Redis server below… | Redis mode with no credentials saved on this computer. |
Receive FINISH (live races)
Where: CONNECTION, at the top; ticked by default
Unticked, this scoreboard does not follow FINISH: it only shows EVENT's overall standings (a screen dedicated to the overall standings, in the lobby for example). Race data always comes from FINISH, never from EVENT.
Choosing your FINISH
Where: CONNECTION, under the status (only when several FINISH announce themselves)
One button per FINISH found, with its name (“FINISH-Starford”): the choice is remembered by that name, even if its address changes. Choose another FINISH at next launch forgets the choice: the list will be offered again. Give different names to the FINISH of two tracks (in FINISH: Broadcast, Name displayed by clients).
FINISH clock
Where: CONNECTION, under the status
The offset between this computer's clock and FINISH's, measured over the network and applied to all timers (“FINISH clock: +2 ms ± 1 ms”). FINISH is the master clock: the running clock is computed from the start time, in FINISH time. “not yet synchronized (workstation time)”: just after connecting. In Redis mode, the clock goes over the Internet: an orange message warns when it is unreliable (slow, irregular link) or when FINISH does not answer clock requests (the scoreboard's Redis account must be able to publish on the request channel).
When a display delay is active, a blue line reminds you of it here (“Display delay: 800 ms”); nothing is added to the broadcast screen.
Connection mode
Where: CONNECTION
- FINISH on the local network (default): FINISH is on the same network; it announces itself and the scoreboard finds it on its own (UDP announcement, port 8212), then connects to it over TCP (port 8210).
- Redis (remote scoreboard): FINISH is on another network, anywhere in the world; the broadcast goes through your Redis server (see the credentials and the scenario A remote scoreboard).
Changing the mode closes the current link, forgets everything received and opens the other one: the screen starts from nothing, without restarting the scoreboard.
FINISH server (empty: found automatically)
Where: CONNECTION, “FINISH on the local network” mode
Empty: the scoreboard listens for the FINISH announcement. If the network blocks the announcement (segmented network, firewall), enter the address of the FINISH computer (“192.168.10.20”). Takes effect at next startup.
This scoreboard's Redis credentials
Where: CONNECTION, “Redis (remote scoreboard)” mode (or “EVENT through Redis”)
- Server (host), Port
- The address of your Redis server and its port.
- Encrypted connection (TLS)
- Almost all cloud Redis services require it. Untick it only for a server on your own network.
- User (optional), Password
- This scoreboard's account: a read-only account is enough. The password is never shown again nor written to the log; left empty, the saved one is kept (“A password is saved on this station.”).
- Space (the same as in FINISH)
- The space entered in FINISH (Broadcast, Redis card): “hsk-starford”.
- Test the connection
- Checks the credentials without saving anything.
- Save and connect
- Saves the credentials on this computer,
encrypted by Windows (
redis.dpapifile, unreadable elsewhere and by another user), then connects.
The FINISH present in the space replace the announcement: if there is only one, it is followed; if there are several, the panel lists them. Possible messages: “Redis: authentication refused…”, “Redis: no FINISH present in the space …”, “Redis: FINISH … no longer reports in”. The same credentials are used for EVENT through Redis.
Overall standings (EVENT)
Where: CONNECTION, “Overall standings (EVENT)” subsection
- Receive EVENT's overall standings
- Unticked by default. The races ticked “Broadcast” in EVENT, for the “Overall standings” moment. A race unticked in EVENT disappears immediately.
- The status
- “Connected to EVENT 192.168.10.12 · 3 race(s) broadcast · 214 batches”, “2 EVENT computers found: choose below.”, “EVENT not connected (…)”, “EVENT is not followed: no overall standings.”.
- EVENT on the local network / EVENT through Redis
- EVENT announces itself on its own port (8214) and broadcasts over TCP (8220): it never passes itself off as a FINISH. Through Redis: with this scoreboard's Redis credentials.
- EVENT server (empty: found automatically)
- As for FINISH.
- Choose another EVENT at next start
- Forgets the remembered EVENT computer.
The two sources are independent: a FINISH snapshot does not erase the standings, and vice versa. See the scenario EVENT's overall standings.
SCENARIO and VIEWS
The moment and the buttons
Where: SCENARIO
The first line gives the moment displayed and its reason (“course — course en cours”, “results — résultats”, “pause — pause”, “advertising — inactivité”…); the second, Automatic or “Manual: presentation”.
- Automatic: the scenario chooses the moment based on the state of the races in FINISH (Scenario and moments);
- Presentation, Race, Results, Pause, Advertising, Overall standings: force that moment until the Automatic button.
Each button does a full refresh: the state is requested again from FINISH (and from EVENT) and the view is redrawn from scratch. The log says which of the two happened (“the complete state is requested again from FINISH”; with a FINISH earlier than 2.0.13, “from the last state received”). Useful when a screen seems to lag behind.
The view for each moment
Where: VIEWS
Athlete introductions, Race, Results, Pause, Overall standings (EVENT): one view per moment, chosen among the views in the views folder. A moment with no view takes the Race moment's view, then the default view. For the overall standings: a view of type “EVENT overall standings”; if none is chosen, the delivered view “Classement général (par défaut)”. There is no “Advertising” view: that moment shows the advertising list.
Preview (sample values, without FINISH)
Where: VIEWS, at the bottom
Shows the view without FINISH: a few cards (six lines for an athlete table, four rows for the others), each element with its sample value. The view's images stay the real ones; the starting-colour square is blue. To check a layout on the big screen before the competition.
DURATIONS
The scenario durations
Where: DURATIONS
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Presentation (s) | 15 | Duration of the introduction of a loaded race (at least the time needed to show every page). |
| Hold after the end (s) | 5 | The Race view stays this long after the end, before the results. |
| Results (s) | 20 | Duration of the results (at least the time for every page), as long as the race is finished in FINISH. |
| Advertising after (min, 0: never) | 30 | Advertising comes after this time with nothing to show. |
| Overall standings after (s with no action on the track, 0: never) | 120 | Only if EVENT broadcasts overall standings: the “Overall standings” moment comes after this time. |
| Overall standings at least (s, 0: one round of the races) | 0 | Minimum duration of the overall standings; always at least one full round (each page of each race once). |
| Display delay (ms, 0 to 10,000) | 0 | See below. |
Then the advertising (after the overall standings): ticked (default), when each page of each race has been shown once, the advertising takes over; unticked, the overall standings keep cycling until racing resumes on the track.
Display delay (ms, 0 to 10,000)
Where: DURATIONS
For an overlay on a delayed video (camera, mixer, encoder): what FINISH and EVENT send is shown with this delay, and the clocks go back by the same amount, so that an athlete's time lands at the moment they are seen crossing the line. Set it by eye, live.
- Delayed: the FINISH batches (times, standings, laps, withdrawals, reconnection), the running clock, EVENT's overall standings; the scenario follows the delayed state.
- Not delayed: the link itself (connection, heartbeats, outage detection, clock), the advertising, manual view changes, the panel, the editor, the log.
- 0: everything is shown immediately. Applied on the fly, with no loss or duplicate; a connection change empties what is waiting.
See the scenario Overlay on a webcast.
ADVERTISING
The advertising list
Where: ADVERTISING
Images, videos, formatted texts and web pages, shown in a loop, full screen, each for its own time. Everything is detailed in Advertising.
FILES and LOG
The file buttons
Where: FILES
- Help (F1), ChronoFEED suite help
- This help (its home page) and the suite help, in the browser.
- Licence…, About…
- This computer's licence; the version and the components.
- Report a problem or suggest an improvement…
- The feedback window, above the panel. It also attaches, unless you untick the box, the installation topology and settings (software, versions, links and their status, settings; computers under an alias, no password and no athlete data), with a Preview of the exact text.
- Contact support…
- A live written conversation with a support agent; see Contact support.
- Langue / Language
- The flag of the language in use; the menu chooses TABLEAU's language (at the next startup). The words TABLEAU writes on the screen itself (“Racing”, “Finished”, “Last lap”…) follow this language.
- View editor…
- The view editor (Ctrl+E).
- Reload views
- Reads the views and backgrounds folder again (F5); a dropped
.layoutfile is converted at that moment. - Reinstall the model views
- Copies back the missing delivered model views (an existing file is never overwritten), then reloads. See Model views.
- Views folder, Backgrounds folder, Ads folder
- Open these folders in File Explorer (Files).
LOG
Where: at the bottom of the panel
The last hundred lines, the most recent at the top: FINISH and EVENT found or lost, views loaded (“8 view(s) available”), model views installed, full refreshes, advertising not found or unreadable, web page unavailable (Edge WebView2 missing), settings not saved, race withdrawn from the overall standings. Read it first when the screen does not show what you expect.
