Element tab
The sheet of the element selected in the preview or in the “Fields” list: its information, its position, its text, its background and its border; depending on the information, its column header, its tiles, its image or the message text. Each setting goes straight into the preview.
- The information and its visibility.
- The position and size.
- The text: font, colour, alignments, sample value.
- The background and border, and where its colours come from.
Depending on the element, other sections are added: Message text, Column header (Athlete table view), Tile list (lapping: last 10), Live track, Leader avatar, Image formatting. With no element selected, the sheet is greyed out. The blue band carries the name of the information.
Information, Visible, In the banner
- Information
- What the element shows: one of the catalogue fields. Changing it keeps the position and the style.
- Visible
- The same thing as the box in the “Fields” list: unticked, the element stays in the view without being drawn.
- In the banner
- Ticked: the element is drawn only once, positioned from the corner of the screen; unticked: once per card, positioned from the corner of the card (the geometry). A banner element that refers to an athlete shows the leader of the reference race.
- Hide if empty or 0
- The element disappears when its value is empty or equals “0” (an athlete with no record, “0” min/max laps, no image).
- With hold
- Visible only a few seconds after the athlete's passing (the view's “Hold (s)”, 5 s by default), otherwise permanent. Typical use: the last lap time that appears at the passing, then fades.
Message text
Where: under the information, when the element is a “Message”
The text displayed by the “Message” element, on several lines if needed; the preview (and the screen, with “Live scoreboard”) shows it as you type. Only the characters: the font, size, colours, alignment, background and border are the element's, as for any other. The text belongs to the view: all its “Message” elements show the same one.
A view imported from an old .layout file keeps its message's original formatting (fonts, tabs) as long as its text is not
changed; the sheet points this out in orange, and Use the element's properties drops it.
Position and size
- Offset X, Offset Y
- The top left corner of the element, in design pixels, from the corner of the screen (banner) or of the card.
- Width, Height
- The size in design pixels. A text wraps onto several lines when the height exceeds about 2.2 times its font size.
- Altitude
- The stacking order: the highest is in front (or Foreground, Background).
- Step (arrows)
- How far the arrow keys move the element (5 pixels by default); Ctrl+arrows resize it.
- Behind the cards
- Only for “Image, banner background #1” to “#4”. Unchecked (default): the background is above the card area, like any banner element, and takes its place among them by its altitude (above or below a banner text). Checked: it is drawn under the card area — the results go on top — for a background or a frame around the whole results area; among themselves, these backgrounds keep the order of their altitude. In the preview, a click on the card area then selects the card first.
In an Athlete table view, the position only sets the order of the columns (from left to right according to Offset X); each column keeps its width (at least 40 pixels).
Text
- Font
- A font installed on the computer (Segoe UI by default): choose one that exists on the scoreboard computer.
- Size (pt), Bold, Italic, Underline
- The size in points (12 points = 16 design pixels).
- Colour
- The text colour (colour field).
- Horizontal, Vertical
- Left, Centre, Right; Top, Middle, Bottom. For an image: where it is placed, or which part is kept.
- Trial value
- The text shown in the preview instead of the information's sample value (a long name, to check the width).
Column header
Where: only in an “Athlete table” view
In an athlete table, each card element is a column; its header row is above the lines. The text of the cells follows the Text section; the header has its own style:
- Text
- The column title; empty: the information's label.
- Font, Size (pt), Bold, Italic, Colour, Background, Horizontal, Vertical
- The header style. By default, that of the “Lap formatting” element in bold (or plain white text).
The header of the Lap formatting element is the one used for the lap columns (“N”, “N-1”…). The height of the header row is set in the View tab (Header height). See the scenario An athlete table.
Tile list
Where: “Lapping: last 10 (horizontal)” and “(vertical)” elements
- Number of tiles (1 to 10)
- The rectangle is split into that many equal places (10 by default); places with no lap stay empty.
- Name size (% of the time)
- 45 by default (from 10 to 200).
- Space between tiles
- In pixels (6 by default).
- Show the name, Oldest first
- The athlete's name above the time; the reverse order (by default, the most recent on the left or at the top).
Each tile shows the lap time in large type (the element's “Size (pt)”, the view's lap format) and the name above, in the colours of its athlete according to the Colors list (by default their start position colour; otherwise the element's background and text). The background, opacity, border and rounding apply to each tile; a text that is too long is shrunk, never cut off. In the preview: ten sample laps (two without athlete colours, to show the fallback).
Live track
Where: the “Live track” element (banner)
- Chip diameter
- In view pixels (26 by default). A chip may be wider than a lane: the track is never distorted for it. In an inset too small for them, the chips shrink.
- Initials size (pt)
- 9 by default; the font is that of the “Text” section (in bold). Initials that are too wide are reduced to fit in the chip.
- Line thickness, Margin around the track
- The track edges and the lane divider (1.5); the free space around the drawing (6).
- Track colour, Line colour, Finish line
- The ice, the edges and the finish line. Empty: nothing is drawn.
- Live race: track dimensions
- A copy of the track belonging to TABLEAU (2.0.23). Copy from FINISH takes the dimensions broadcast by FINISH (running race, otherwise loaded) and ticks TABLEAU's own dimensions; you can then change them. Ticked, the position simulation and the drawing use these values; unticked, the shape broadcast by FINISH. The finish line and the crossing remain those of the race (carried over to the same place on the track).
- With lanes, Track length, Inner radius, Lane width, Crossing zone
- The long-track rules: the measuring line runs 0.5 m from the inner edge; with lanes, its radius is the average of the two lanes' radii, so a full lap (one bend in each lane) is always the track length, and the straight is (length − 2π × measuring radius) ÷ 2. Each athlete starts in the lane of their starting position (odd: inner) and changes lane in the crossing zone, centred on the crossing, at each full lap. Without lanes: a single lane, in the middle of the track. Default: 400 m, 26 m, 4 m, 70 m, with lanes.
The background, opacity, frame and rounding are the element's (transparent by default: the track sits on the video). New element: a 480 × 200 inset at the top right of the screen, to move and enlarge at will. In the preview: a 1500 m pair going round with its ghost. See the Live track field.
Leader avatar
Where: the “Live track” element and the “Overall leader next lap” fields (banner)
The leader is the athlete at FINISH's Leader position in the event's overall standings (1: the first; 2 or 3 for youth). Its symbol, drawn as vectors, sharp at any size:
- Avatar
- Rabbit, Checkered flag, Gold medal (default), Silver medal, Bronze medal (the leader position is written on the medal), or Chosen image…. “Overall leader next lap” fields: also None (default, the former rendering) and Same as “Live race”, which uses the symbol of the view's Live track element.
- Image
- With Chosen image…: an image from the TABLEAU images folder; Choose… copies an image from your computer there (PNG, JPG…). On the track it is round, ringed in white; missing from the folder, the gold medal replaces it.
On the track, the symbol is that of the single ghost (2.0.23; it replaces the gold, silver, bronze podium ghosts). On an “Overall leader next lap” field, it is shown left of the text, square at the element's height; for the flag and the photo, it takes the place of the image. It appears only when the field shows a leader.
Image formatting
Where: every image field: “Athlete (photo)”, “Athlete (image)”, “Athlete (avatar)”, their “EVENT standings” equivalents, “Image, logo/sponsor”, “Image, banner logo” (not the backgrounds)
The same formatting for every image, set once per element; any image field added later gets it too.
- Scaling
- Uniform fit: the whole image, not distorted, with empty bands if its proportions differ (“uniform, centred” when centred); Uniform fill: the whole rectangle covered, not distorted, what overflows is cropped; Actual size (100 %): one image pixel per view pixel, cropped if it overflows (“centred, not scaled” in the centre); Stretched: the rectangle filled, even if the image is distorted.
- Horizontal, Vertical
- Left, Centre, Right; Top, Middle, Bottom: where the image sits in the rectangle, or the part kept when it overflows (uniform fill, actual size).
- Direction
- Enlarge or shrink (default); Enlarge only: never smaller than its actual size; Shrink only: never larger (a small image stays sharp instead of being enlarged).
Under the lists, the setting in plain words: “Uniform, centred”, “Uniform fill”, “Centred, not scaled”, “Stretched”… The radius rounds the corners: half the side of a square gives a circle, surrounded by the border. The opacity applies to the whole image; “Hide if empty or 0” hides the element for an athlete with no image. In the preview: a silhouette.
Background and border
- Background
- The element's background colour; empty: transparent.
- Background opacity (%)
- The text stays solid; only the background becomes transparent (for an image: the whole image). To see the race through an overlaid banner.
- Frame, Sides, Thickness
- The border colour, the sides drawn (Top, Bottom, Left, Right) and their thickness.
- Radius
- The rounded corners.
- Colors
- For a field linked to the athlete (name, time, laps, position…): where the background and the text come from. Field colours (default): the ones set above; Starting position colour: the colour of the athlete's start position, broadcast by FINISH (Settings → Start position colours, active set); Athlete's colours (athlete record, session): the colours of their athlete record, or their session colours (chip or colour code, “CHIP” athlete of an unassigned transponder). With no colour for this athlete (or an older FINISH): the field's colours. “Start line pos.” with the starting position colour and a radius gives the coloured dot with the number. In the preview: blue (start position) or orange (athlete).
- Lapping fields (“Lapping”, “Lapping (athlete)”, “Lapping: last 10” horizontal and vertical): the same list, but applied to the athlete who skated each retained lap — in the last 10, each tile takes its own athlete's colours. By default (and in earlier views): Starting position colour, the previous rendering; Athlete's colours (athlete record, session) requires FINISH 2.0.18 (older: the field's colours); Field colours: every tile in the element's background and text. An athlete with no colour from this source takes the field's colours.
The colour field
Wherever the editor asks for a colour: the code #RRGGBB (or #AARRGGBB), a swatch (struck through in red: no colour, transparent)
and ▾: a palette of 32 colours (including the overlay green #00FF00), None and
Other… (the Windows colour picker).
