Session configuration
What FINISH is timing today: the activity (competition, training, demo), the sanction level, the sport and its discipline, the country, the venue and the track. The window opens at launch and from .
- The activity and the sanction level; on the right, the logos of the deduced federations (here SKF and HSK).
- The Sport / Discipline pane; its title recalls the choice.
- The Country / Province pane.
- The Venue and track pane. In training, a fourth pane: Free session.
- The countdown of the automatic confirmation (at launch only).
How it works
- At launch, the window opens if Open the session configuration at startup is checked. Cancel then quits FINISH. When opened from the Session menu, Cancel simply closes it.
- The close box is refused: you leave with Confirm or Cancel.
- The choices are kept and restored at the next launch.
- The Timing mode button opens the Timing mode window; the folder button (Folders) is not available yet.
- Federations are not chosen: they are deduced from the sport, the country and the province (the sport's national federation in the country, then its regional federation in the province). They are used for athlete affiliations and for import.
Activity and sanction level
Timing activity
Where: at the top of the window
Competition, Training or Demo. When the activity changes, FINISH automatically sets several options (afterwards, what you change by hand is respected as long as the activity stays the same):
| Activity | Settings imposed on change |
|---|---|
| Competition Demo | Automatic loading; every start resets the clock to zero; finishing when all laps are completed; laps limited to the race; .LIF file; color by start position; no automatic closing; no free sequence; races already in the database not loaded. |
| Training | Automatic loading; multiple races; automatic closing of inactive races; no color by start position; free sequence checked (also at every launch in training). |
What exists only in Training: the Schedule tab, free practice (free sequence), the unassigned transponder that becomes an athlete, and the laps within the min/max sent to the displays. Automatic assignment of transponders, on the other hand, only applies in competition and demo. Demo behaves like a competition.
Sanction level (“Penalty”)
Where: below the activity
Regional, Provincial/State, National or International: the level of the competition, kept with the session. In the English interface, this group is titled “Penalty”.
The panes
Sport
Where: first pane
The sport of the session (list from the shared data). It fills the list of disciplines and is used to deduce the federation.
Discipline
Where: first pane
The discipline (long track, short track…), with its image. It gives the default track length, the races of the discipline (templates) and the “Discipline” filter of the history. The “SpeedSkatingResults ID” field of the athlete import and the downloaded records are offered only in long track.
Track length
Where: first pane
In meters; comes from the discipline and can be changed (111.12 m by default). It is used for races created by hand, when reading .evt and Excel files, and for pack lapping. A race coming from EVENT keeps the track of its event.
Country
Where: second pane
The country of the session. It fills the list of provinces, narrows the venue search, and completes the record of athletes who have no country.
Province/State
Where: second pane
The province or state: the regional federation is deduced from it, and the venue search is narrowed to it.
Venue and track
Where: third pane, Edit button
Type at least three letters of the venue's name, its abbreviation or its city (in the session's province, otherwise in its country), then choose one of its tracks. The track image is displayed. The button rereads the lists.
Free session Training
Where: fourth pane, visible in training only
The Generate free sessions automatically box (the same as Settings › Training): the first passing of a known athlete starts a free practice, without loading a race. Below, the template for this race: Race type (Individual or Team; Relay gives an individual race), Number of laps (40 by default), Distance, Start line, Track, and Compute laps and line from the distance and the track. Order and Start signal are kept but not used: the free race finishes its laps on the “STA” line. See the scenario Free practice.
Validate automatically after (s)
Where: top right, at launch only
At launch, the session confirms itself at the end of the countdown (10 s by default), so that a computer that is already set up starts with nobody there. A click, a key or another window opened on top stops the countdown: you are in control. The duration can also be set in Settings › Information.
