Broadcast to TABLEAU and VOICE

A giant screen for the public, a display for the officials, the voice and the bell on the PA system, and a display for families at home: everything comes from FINISH, with no configuration on their side in the usual case.

Example: the Coupe Hollywood. On the Starford oval network: the FINISH computer, a TABLEAU computer (“ECRAN-PUBLIC”) connected to the giant screen, a VOICE computer (“SONO”) connected to the PA system.

1. On the track network

  1. Check the broadcast

Broadcast module: Announce FINISH on the network every 2 s and IP (TCP) are checked by default. Give a meaningful Name displayed by clients: “FINISH-Starford”.

The status reads “Broadcast: TCP :8210 · announcement · clock :8213”.

  2. Start TABLEAU

On ECRAN-PUBLIC, start TABLEAU: it finds FINISH through the announcement and connects to it (if there are several FINISH computers, it offers the list and remembers the chosen name). Choose the view for each moment in its control panel (F2).

  3. Start VOICE

On SONO, start VOICE: same discovery.

In FINISH, Connected clients (TCP and Redis) shows ECRAN-PUBLIC (TABLEAU) and SONO (VOICE), the batches sent to them and the clock gap (a few ms: FINISH is the clock master, the clients compute the timer from the start time).

  4. A race on screen

Load a race: it appears on the display (athletes, start positions and colors, records), then the timer, laps and standings at each passing. A raced race leaves the display immediately: the displays only show loaded, in-progress or finished races.

2. The voice and the bell

  1. Each athlete's language

A session from EVENT (.cfevent or database) brings each athlete's language. Otherwise, or to change it: Athletes tab → select Lotte Verhaegen (or the whole Dutch-speaking team, Ctrl + click) → Language “nl” → Apply. It is kept for these athletes on this computer, from one competition to the next.

  2. What is said

Each athlete's voice options set in the Athletes tab (name, position, lap time, final time, to go…); without options, those of VOICE.

  3. The bell

SettingsKeypad and signals: Use the bell, Broadcast the bell (ChronoFEED-VOICE rings it), ratio 0.95. In long track, the bell rings on the PA system at the start of each skater's last lap; in short track, check Ring on this computer instead.

3. Lapping on screen

In training, with lapping enabled, the held lap is sent to the displays (“Lapping” elements of a TABLEAU view) as long as a race is on screen. See Free practice.

4. A display somewhere else (Redis)

  1. Your Redis server

Broadcast → Redis (remote scoreboards and archive): Server (host), port, Encrypted connection (TLS), user, password, Space “hsk-starford”; Test the connection, Save.

    “Connected to … · space “hsk-starford” · N batches published”.

  2. The remote display

In TABLEAU, at home or at the club: the same server and the same space. It appears in the connected clients (Redis link).

  3. The archive

Each raced race is kept in Redis, as JSON; Synchronize all catches up on the past.

5. If a client sees nothing

  • The client is not in the list: same network? The client computer's firewall? The announcement may be blocked by the network: enter the FINISH address in the client.
  • Two FINISH computers (two tracks): each client remembers a FINISH by its name; give them different names.
  • After a settings change, or when in doubt: Restart broadcast; the clients reconnect and receive the full state.
  • TABLEAU and VOICE receive over TCP (or, for a remote display, through Redis). The UDP and Database (PostgreSQL) boxes only serve other clients of the broadcast protocol: checking them adds no screen.
  • A SIM connected for a test? Uncheck Accept ChronoFEED-SIM before the competition.
