Lapping
Lapping holds the last lap that passes and keeps it for a while, in large, before holding another one: useful on a small track with many athletes, especially in training.

Information

Show the log

Where: Settings › Information

The session log, in the Configuration module. Unchecked, it disappears.

Show the message bar

Where: Settings › Information

The last message, at the bottom left of the main window.

Notifications

Where: Settings › Information

Coming soon.

Check races finished but without a start

Where: Settings › Information › Startup checks

Kept; FINISH does not run this check yet. At launch, it puts the races from a shutdown without closing back in order on its own (loaded → not raced; in progress or finished → raced).

Check races not finished but with a start

Where: Settings › Information › Startup checks

Kept; same remark.

Open the session configuration at startup

Where: Settings › Information

Checked: FINISH starts with the Session configuration (Cancel quits). Unchecked: it starts with the choices from last time.

Validate it automatically after (s)

Where: Settings › Information

The countdown of the automatic confirmation at launch (10 s by default).

Training

Free sequence (generate free training) Training

Where: Settings › Training

The same box as in the session configuration: the configuration checks it automatically in training (and at every launch in training); unchecked here, it stays unchecked until the next launch. The group schedule is set in the Schedule tab.

Lapping

See also the Lapping tab of timing. These settings survive a restart and a change of session.

Enable lapping

Where: Settings › Lapping

Enabled: the “Lapping” tab appears in Timing (after Annotations) and the displays receive the held lap. Disabled, lapping does nothing.

Last lap hold time

Where: Settings › Lapping

How long the held lap stays shown before another one can be held (4 s). It then stays on screen until the next lap.

Mode

Where: Settings › Lapping

Individual: each athlete's lap, from their previous passing to this one. Pack: athletes following each other closely form a pack; the lap starts from the passing of the head of the pack on the previous lap.

Pack: maximum gap (m)

Where: Settings › Lapping

Two athletes following each other by less than this distance (the time gap converted to meters at the lap speed, on the session's track) are in the same pack (2 m).

Hold only laps within the athlete's minimum and maximum

Where: Settings › Lapping (checked by default)

The athlete's min/max; failing that, their race's, otherwise the one from the settings. A lap outside these limits is not shown.

Minimum lap

Where: Settings › Lapping

A passing closer than this to the previous one (double read, second transponder) is not a lap (2 s).

Reset if no lap for

Where: Settings › Lapping

With no lap held for this time (15 min), lapping starts again from zero and the displays clear. 0: never.

Lapping line

Where: Settings › Lapping

The loop whose passings make the laps. Empty: the first finish line of the track. An unknown athlete is ignored; “Passings OFF” suspends lapping; each held lap is written to the database.

Keypad and signals

Lap time

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Numeric keypad

Each key of the numeric keypad records a lap for the athlete. (With a decoder only, this is always the case.)

Final time only

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Numeric keypad

The key gives the athlete's final time (manual finish timing), in Manual or Hybrid mode. The same choice is in the command strip.

Key event

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals

Key released or pressed: coming soon.

Delay

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals

None, before or after processing: coming soon.

Delay value (cs)

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals

Coming soon.

Ctrl + numpad 0 = manual start

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Signals

Always active in FINISH (box grayed out): Ctrl+keypad 0 gives the manual start.

MAN signal (manual passings on jacks 1 to 8)

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Signals

Coming soon.

Photo-finish: close finish if the gap is at most

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Signals

Two athletes next to each other in the standings with a final time gap of at most this duration (50 ms) are flagged “photo finish” (close finish). 0: never. Applies to races loaded afterwards.

Use the bell

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

Starting values for new races (the race's Bell tab). The bell rings when an athlete approaches the line for their last lap: they have two laps left, their last lap lasted more than 5 s, and the moment “start of the lap + ratio × duration of the last lap” is reached.

First only

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

The bell rings only for the leader of the standings.

Second-to-last lap ratio

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

0.95: the bell rings at 95% of the previous lap's duration, just before the athlete reaches the line. A race template can give its own.

Minimum time between two bells (ms)

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

3000 ms: two bells do not overlap. An elimination bell that falls within this delay is not lost: it rings when the delay ends (if the leader has not yet completed the elimination lap).

Ring on this computer (speaker connected to FINISH)

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

The short track case: the bell comes out of the FINISH computer.

Broadcast the bell (ChronoFEED-VOICE rings it)

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

The long track case: a signal is sent immediately through the broadcast and VOICE rings the bell on its PA system. The two outputs are independent.

Bell WAV file

Where: Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell

Empty: LastLap.wav in the FINISH folder, otherwise a synthesized bell. The “…” button chooses a file; Listen plays it; Default sound clears the field. A line says which sound will ring (in red if the file does not exist).

Timing engine

The rates and thresholds of the calculation: they are set once for the equipment, rarely during a session.

Standings calculation update (timeout)

Where: Settings › Timing engine › Rates

Slider kept; FINISH does not use it: the standings are recalculated at each passing, the screen at the next frame.

Wait between two passings

Where: Settings › Timing engine › Rates

Slider kept, with no effect: passings are processed as soon as they arrive.

Force interface refresh

Where: Settings › Timing engine › Rates

Slider kept, with no effect: the screen follows every frame (about 60 per second).

Max no. of passings

Where: Settings › Timing engine › Passings

Kept, with no effect for now.

Limit past passings

Where: Settings › Timing engine › Passings

A passing older than this (1 h) is refused by the race (“passing too old” in the log): a sign of a badly set decoder clock, or of a replay that is too old.

Double transponder

Where: Settings › Timing engine

“Check final times with two transponders”: when an athlete wears two chips, a final time that the second one does not confirm is flagged.

Second transponder delay

Where: Settings › Timing engine

Two passings of the same athlete closer together than this (1.5 s) are their two transponders: only one passing counts.

Final delay (2nd transponder)

Where: Settings › Timing engine

At the finish, how long to wait for the second transponder (200 ms).

Final times invalid if >

Where: Settings › Timing engine › Final times (PhotoFinish / Transponders / Photocell)

When the photo finish time and the transponder time differ by at least this threshold (100 ms), the athlete's row carries a red “gap N ms” badge.

Overall standings

The overall standings compare athletes' times across all the races of a competition. At each passing, this computer stores its time in the shared database, in the slot for its technology (transponder, photocell, manual timing). The official time belongs to EVENT.

Keep the general classification in the database

Where: Settings › Overall standings

Checked: FINISH writes its times to the overall standings (History › Overall standings tab, and EVENT).

This computer computes the live positions (master)

Where: Settings › Overall standings

Only one computer at a time computes the live positions of a competition. A transponder computer always tries to be the one, even without this box.

General classification by index

Where: Settings › Overall standings

The index is the rank of a distance for an athlete in the competition (their 2nd 500 m has index 2). Checked: each index has its own live standings. Unchecked: all the 500 m races of the competition together (an athlete can appear several times). Men, women and mixed are always ranked separately.

Results server

FINISH sends no results to the ChronoFEED results database: only EVENT publishes there, and only results set to "Official" (since 2.0.25; there is no longer a "Share results" box, a sending consent or a queue). FINISH uses it for the athletes' rights, from their record: view what the server keeps about them, delete some of it, refuse publication (Shared results). A queue left by a previous version is emptied at startup, without sending anything. The scenario Results in the ChronoFEED database explains who publishes what.

Results server address

Where: Settings › Results server

Empty: https://resultats.chronofeed.ca. Change it only for a test server.

Results server log

Where: Settings › Results server

The last 200 lines: List (an athlete's results viewed), Deletion (with the reason), Publication ("Publish results" ticked or unticked, and when the server learned it), Error (network, licence, server not up to date: one line per outage, not one per attempt). Sending lines from a previous version (Consent, Queued, Sending, Refused, Disabled) remain readable. Each line shows the computer and the Windows user; Refresh reloads it.
