Step 1 Import the transponders (Excel)
Give FINISH the list of your transponders in one go, from a five-column Excel workbook.
The goal
Every transponder of your club known to FINISH: its number (the one printed on the case), an easy-to-read code and, if you need them, its owner and start position. Athletes will then receive their transponders (step 2).
Before you start
- FINISH installed and open (step 0).
- The timing system chosen, if possible (step 3, action “The timing mode”): the type of the imported transponders (RACE RESULT, MyLaps…) depends on it. Otherwise the type is not changed; you can import the same file again later.
- An Excel workbook (.xlsx): the first sheet is read, one row per transponder.
What to do, one action at a time
- Prepare the workbook
In Excel, five columns, in this order (the header row is optional):
A: Transponder B: Usual code C: Owner D: Start line pos. E: Usual code 2 1 Transponder Usual code Owner Start line pos. Usual code 2 2 7120012 121 CLUB 1 A1 3 1348838 122 CLUB 1 4 6660019 123 Léonie Fauchereau 0 5 2552442 124 CLUB 0 - A, required: the number printed on the transponder case.
- B: a usual code, easier to read (“121”, “3_WHITE”…).
- C: the owner (“CLUB”, or the athlete's name).
- D: the start position, only if you use automatic assignment by position (0 or empty = none). For training: leave 0.
- E: a 2nd usual code, added to the first one after a semicolon.
- Open the import
History › Transponders tab › Import from Excel….
The Importing transponders from an Excel file window shows the expected format and, in blue, the type that will be given to the transponders.
- Choose the file
Choose the Excel file… → your workbook.
The report: “N added, M updated, K unchanged”, with any remarks. FINISH immediately re-reads its active transponders.
- Check
In the Transponders grid, search for a number (search box): its record on the right shows the usual code, owner, start position and Active ticked.
What success looks like
- The message “N added, M updated, K unchanged”; the first time, N is the number of rows in your file.
- The Transponders tab of the history shows each number, its usual code and its type, with Active ticked.
Common problems and solutions
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “0 added” or rows missing | Only the first sheet of the workbook is read: put the list on the first sheet. A row without a number in column A is ignored. |
| A number rejected or changed | The number is checked according to the type: RACE RESULT, 7 characters (“ABC1234”); MyLaps, “KZ-01234” or a number. Copy exactly what is printed on the case. |
| The transponder type is wrong | First choose the right system (step 3, ), then import the same file again: transponders are updated, nothing is duplicated. |
| A transponder is no longer used | Do not delete it: open its record and untick Active (past laps keep its number). |
| Your athletes file already contains the transponders | This step is then optional: the athlete import (step 2) adds the transponders the database does not know. |
