ChronoFEED FINISH Help

Step 6 Set up TABLEAU

Put the laps on a big screen: install TABLEAU, link it to FINISH, and give it a training view with lapping, the ON/OFF phase and the live track.

The goal

A screen next to the track that shows each athlete's last lap very large, the last ten laps and, if you use it, the ON / OFF phase.

Before you start

  • Lapping enabled in FINISH (step 5).
  • A Windows computer for the screen, on the same network as FINISH (or the FINISH computer itself, with a second monitor).
  • The ChronoFEED-TABLEAU installer, from chronofeed.ca (licensed like the other programs of the suite: see step 0).

What to do, one action at a time

  1. Check the FINISH broadcast

In FINISH, Broadcast module: Announce FINISH on the network every 2 s and IP (TCP) are ticked by default. Enter a meaningful Name displayed by clients (“FINISH-Club”).

The status says “Broadcast: TCP :8210 · announce · …”.

  2. Install and start TABLEAU

On the screen computer: install ChronoFEED-TABLEAU and start it. Nothing to type: it listens for the FINISH announcement and connects.

In FINISH, Connected clients (TCP and Redis) shows the screen computer (TABLEAU). In TABLEAU, control panel (F2): “Connected to …”.

  3. A training view

In TABLEAU, Editor › New, name “Club lapping”. Tick the elements Lapping (athlete), Lapping and Lapping: last 10 (horizontal); Hide if empty or 0 on each. Step by step: TABLEAU, Training and lapping.

The preview shows the athlete's name, the time very large and the row of the last ten.

  4. The ON/OFF phase (if you use the gun in ON/OFF)

Add the ON/OFF phase (training) element to the view, large: “ON” on green during effort, “OFF” on red during rest. Empty outside this mode. See Starting gun.

  5. The live track (optional)

The Live track element draws the track from above with the athletes on it. It shows during a race of 3 laps or more; see Live track.

  6. Choose the view and go full screen

Control panel (F2): the “Club lapping” view for the Race and Pause moments. Then F11 (or double-click): full screen, kept at the next start.

At an athlete's next passing, their lap appears large on the screen, in their colours.

The path of a lap: the transponder crosses the loop, the decoder sends it to FINISH, FINISH computes the lap and sends it to TABLEAU, which displays it.

What success looks like

  • FINISH lists the screen computer among the connected clients; TABLEAU says “Connected to …”.
  • Each lap held by lapping appears on the screen in less than a second.
  • When the training closes, the screen clears: no old time stays displayed.

Common problems and solutions

What you seeWhat to do
TABLEAU stays on “Starting…”The announcement does not arrive: same network? Firewall on the computer? Enter the FINISH computer's IP address as the FINISH server (control panel) and restart TABLEAU.
Connected, but the screen is emptyNo race in progress (wait for the first passing), or the chosen view is not the one for the current moment: check the scenario in the control panel. For lapping: is it enabled in FINISH?
Two FINISH on the network (two tracks)TABLEAU offers one button per FINISH: click yours; it is remembered by its name. Give the two FINISH different names.
The screen seems lateIn FINISH, Restart broadcast: clients reconnect and receive the full state.
