Context help (F1)

Every button, field, tab or command of FINISH that the search can find has a key, and every key has its section in this help: the F1 key opens the help exactly where it should.

How it works

1. One key per item. In FINISH, each searchable item carries a stable key: ruban.pave for the “Numeric keypad” switch, eq.journal for “Detailed decoder log”. These are the keys of the header search (Ctrl+K): the complete list is the FINISH search catalog.
2. One section per key. In the reference by screen, the section that describes an item has its key as its identifier: the page reference/equipement.html contains the section eq.journal.
3. A table. The file aide/commun/f1/finish.json maps each key to its page and section: "eq.journal": "reference/equipement.html#eq.journal".
4. F1. FINISH starts from the item that has the focus (otherwise the one under the mouse) and goes up to the window, noting each key it meets, the selected tab included; the first key known in f1.json gives the page and the section. None: the home page of the FINISH help. With a menu open: F1 targets its command. An item without a key (a box on the race screen, for example) leads to the section of its tab or module.

Where the help is, and without F1

FINISH opens the help installed with it (the aide folder next to the program), in the software's language (in French for a page whose translation is still to come). Without an installed help, it opens the online help, on the chronofeed.ca site. To find a section without F1:

• In this help, type the label in the search (Ctrl+K, at the top of each page): “lapping”, “clock”, “.LIF”.
• In FINISH, the header search (Ctrl+K) finds the same item with the same words and shows it on screen (see Search for a setting, a command…).
• The table below leads from each key to its section.

The activities

Some functions exist only in one session activity: their section carries a Competition or Training badge. The Photocells tab and the Lanes panel exist only in the Photocells timing mode; the Lapping tab, only if lapping is enabled. The FINISH search finds these items even when hidden: it then says that they are not visible in the current mode.
