Timing: the races in progress

The module where you time. The first tab shows each loaded, in-progress or finished race, with its timer, its commands and its lap-by-lap standings; the other tabs prepare and follow the session.

Races in progress

Where: Timing, first tab

Each loaded (waiting for the start), in-progress or finished race (the closing countdown is running). A race leaves this tab when it becomes raced (or goes back to the list). The layout is chosen in Settings › Display:

  • Tabs: one tab per race, with the dot of its state (yellow loaded, green in progress, checkered finished);
  • Horizontally: the races one above the other; drag the bottom edge of a race to change its height (double-click: the height from the settings);
  • Vertically: the races side by side; drag the right edge.

Without a race: “No race in progress”. START A NEW RACE NOW! (at the bottom, in “One race” mode) creates one.

The pair “500 m Women — P03” of the Coupe Hollywood, 27 seconds after the start: both skaters have passed the 100 m.
  1. The start time (to the millisecond) and the race order.
  2. The states of the race (read-only boxes, except “Stop updates”).
  3. The four commands: False start, Finished, All finished, Next. To their left: the last lap.
  4. The name of the race and its competition; “Closing in N s” when it is finished.
  5. The strip: timer, laps to go, rule, finish line, “Not finished | All” filter.
  6. The standings: one row per athlete, one tile per lap.
  7. The right-hand column: moving through the laps, sorting, corrections.

Start, Order

The start time as received (start offset included), empty while the race is loaded; the order of the race in the list.

The states

Loaded, In progress, Finished (only one at a time), Speech synthesis (the race is announced by VOICE), Suspended, Broadcast (the race is sent to the displays), Alive, Rebuild, Open (open race: “Include all athletes crossing the line”). These boxes are read-only; they come from the race sheet.

Stop updates can be checked: this race's screen stops refreshing (timing continues). Useful for reading a standings list calmly while passings keep arriving.

The commands

ButtonEffect
False startThe race goes back to loaded: start, laps and transponders assigned during the race are reset; the athletes stay. Confirmation if there are laps. The lane queues are emptied.
FinishedCloses the race right away: it becomes raced and leaves the tab. Athletes who have not finished are ranked by their last completed lap (more laps first, then the earliest across the line); with no lap at all: DNF. On a loaded race (no start): “Finish it without racing it?” (default answer: No); Yes sets it aside, raced with no result.
All finishedSame ranking as Finished, but the race only becomes finished: the “Closing in N s” countdown starts (Delay before closing), and passings are still accepted during that time. Without Laps completed or time elapsed, nothing closes on its own.
NextResets the race and sends it back to the list, not raced, at its order plus the increment (confirmation if it is in progress or finished). Automatic loading takes the next one.

Finished and All finished are never grayed out. A DNF, DNS or DQ already set (Annotations tab) stays.

The standings strip

The timer (tenths truncated, never rounded up; it freezes when the race is finished), the leader's laps to go (“1 laps to go”, then “Finished”), the name and rule of the race, its finish line (STA, STA2, BOX…) and Change… (with a decoder only): choose another finish line among those checked “Finish line” in Track and loops; the following passings on that loop complete the laps, laps already done are not judged again (confirmation if the race has passings). A line that is no longer a finish line of the track is highlighted in yellow. In orange: the elimination summary, for an elimination race.

On the right, Not finished | All: only the athletes who have not finished, or all of them.

A red label appears as soon as the first athlete has completed a lap: “3 athletes have not passed yet” (their names in a tooltip). It disappears when all active athletes have a lap, or when the latecomers are deactivated.

The standings and the tiles

One row per athlete: their position in the race (large) and their start position, their annotation (red dot), their name (in the color of their start position if color by position is on), their team, their transponders, the laps they have left, then one tile per lap: distance, lap time, cumulative time (what is displayed is chosen in the Options tab).

100m500m100m 10.62 10.62500m

Gray: not started; yellow: started; green: completed; blue: started and late compared with the maximum lap duration. (Colors can be set: Ranking tile colours.) A finished row shows the final time, on a gold, silver or bronze background for the first three of an individual race; an eliminated row shows “Eliminated at lap N”. A small camera marks a final time from the photo finish (the transponder time after the slash); a red “gap N ms” badge flags a disagreement larger than Final times invalid if >.

Nobody disappears: before the leader's first lap, all athletes are listed by start position; after that, those who have a lap in standings order, then the others. Right-click on the standings: Row height, Lap width, Keep these sizes for new races, Use the general sizes. Below 60 pixels, the row becomes compact (team, transponders and start position hidden).

The right-hand column

  • Movement < >: the first lap displayed, when there are more laps than room.
  • Race pos. / Start pos.: how the rows are sorted. The choice applies to all races and is kept.
  • Standings: recalculates the standings.
  • Last passing: removes the last passing at the finish line of the selected athlete (never an intermediate line); their lap becomes the current lap again. To cancel a manual passing made by mistake.
  • Eliminate: a referee's decision; the athlete leaves the race and keeps their place in the standings. On an eliminated athlete: puts them back in the race.
  • Remove photo (only if the race has received times from FinishLynx): the standings go back to the times recorded by FINISH.

Several athletes at once: Ctrl + click or Shift + click selects several rows of the standings; Last passing and Eliminate then apply to all of them, after a single confirmation that gives their number. Eliminate eliminates those still in the race; if all are already eliminated, it puts them back in the race. A single row: as before, without confirmation.

The race's Athletes tab

The grid of this race's athletes (multiple selection, sorted by start position): active, position (red if duplicated or missing), athlete, team, relay, bib, category, transponders and usual codes (red: no transponder), min and max, records, finished, status (“Eliminated at lap N”, annotation). At the top: Add athletes (athletes of the session, double-click or Add selection; or an Athlete not in the session: “LASTNAME, First name” and bib), the positions (to the top Ctrl+Home, up Ctrl+↑, down Ctrl+↓, to the bottom Ctrl+End, Renumber 1, 2, 3…), Remove (Del, confirmation if the athlete has laps), Remove transponders (automatic assignment). Above the grid, Columns: Info (team, relay, bib, category), Transponders (the runner's two transponders in this race, which may differ from those on their record in the database), Usual codes (with the transponders), Min / max, Records. The choices are kept from one launch to the next and apply to all races.

On the right, editing the selection: name, bib, start position, transponders 1 and 2 (printed code, usual code or number), Active (ranked), team, category, relay order, minimum and maximum lap time with their action, speech synthesis. Only the touched fields (✓) are applied; “different values” changes nothing if you type nothing. Apply.

Options tab

  • Lap display: Tiles (repeated area) or Last lap.
  • Ranking size: row height (18 to 200 px), lap width (30 to 300 px), Keep these sizes for new races.
  • Lap time (min/max): Min. (a shorter lap is suspicious) and Max. (0: no maximum), Apply (the following passings are judged with these limits, even once the race has started; the race in the list and the database keep the value), Default values (those of Default min/max). As long as the fields differ from the limits in effect, nothing has changed for the timing: Apply is highlighted (orange) with the “Changes not applied” badge and a Cancel button that puts back the values in effect; everything returns to normal after Apply, Cancel or if you type the original values again.
  • Displayed information in each tile: Distance, Lap, Time, Speed, Personal time, Scheduled time, Scheduled lap, Corridor, Lap counter, Database ID. Below: the GUID of the race.

Records tab

The records broadcast to the displays with this race (type, category, distance, time, holder, country, venue, date, season, source) and, for each athlete, their personal best, season best and best on the session's track. Taken when the race is loaded: Tools › Update the records… before loading.

Bell tab

Last lap bell, Bell for leader only, Second-to-last lap ratio (0.95: the bell rings at 95% of the previous lap's duration), and Ring the bell on demand. The starting values come from Settings › Keypad and signals › Bell, or the ratio of the race template if it gives one.

Team tab

Only for a team pursuit (or a relay). Team name (empty: each athlete belongs to the team in their Team column), Team finish: First, Last or Position N (the N-th athlete to cross the line finishes the team and gives its time), Opposite side (corridor 2). Changes apply immediately, even once the race has started (confirmation if there are already finishes). Below, each team, its state and its time. A team without a name gets “Team N”. Relay timing is not supported yet.

The bottom bar

Manual start

Where: Timing, bottom left (“Manual start Now!”; Ctrl+keypad 0)

Gives a start signal at the computer's time, like the start gun: it is recorded in the database (equipment “FINISH (manuel)”) and then processed like any start. What starts depends on the management mode: the active race in “One race” mode; the waiting race with the lowest order in multiple races (with the other teams of its pursuit); all loaded races if Same start is checked. A start already given less than 300 ms earlier is a double start and is ignored (Double start if <=). With the beep, a sound confirms it. Each signal is recorded in the Starts tab.

Emergency race

Where: Timing, at the bottom (“START A NEW RACE NOW!”), in “One race” mode only

For a race that has to start without having been prepared. The “New race now” window offers the favorites (the discipline's races and your own), then the name (“Emergency race 14h05”), the distance, the track length, the start line (m before the finish line) and the number of laps; Create race. It is an open race: any transponder that crosses the line becomes an athlete (a transponder known to the session takes its athlete's name). It becomes the active race, under the day's “Emergency” competition, and starts at the next start (start gun or Manual start). The distance and the track are remembered for next time.
